The team behind the Project Reality (http://www.realitymod.com/) mod are back with a very exciting update for us all. They have posted the PRMM v0.3 release info as well as a number of new shots. Here's what they had to say:

If you haven't played Project Reality, you're missing out. It is infinitely more intense and 'real' than Vanilla, even in its current release state. This new update promises to make it even better.

I'd hoped that they would include some more weapons with .3, but you can't have everything, I guess. Looking good, though! I'm having flashbacks to TFC with that escort mode. Can't wait to try it!

we are working on the full realse version (v1 with the brits ect) at the same time as the mini mod. If we spend more time making new weapons for the mini mod the full realse will come out even later. We are trying to do a even blance on working on both ;)

i can't wait to play the extraction mode. it will make this and other mods much better.
In DC we toyed around with an extraction mode. One way was a CTF mode, where instead of a flag it was a human model on foot running behind you. entering a vehicle wouldn't work though, because we couldn't code the guy to hold E without getting into vehicles that you simply walked past (and having a dude flying beside a jet (where the flag would be) looks stupid.
then there was an idea to make the hostage a vehicle that when you were in it's wheels were a pair of legs that ran. You would walk to the hostage, press E, and lead him back to a flag. Problem was, back then you couldn't shoot out of vehicles.

the result?
Medina Ridge, Weapons Bunkers, and NO fly Zone.
But no one ever played those maps - I loved Medina ridge and no fly zone.

Ah, memories. Remember placing 30 mortars at the bunker entrances of Weapons Bunkers to obstruct movement of allied troops inside?
The innovative things done in BF1942 only shows that even more innovative thing will done in BF2. PR has already come up with some great stuff.

What about mortar sleds? You crouch and face the floor. You place the mortar down and when you stand up it moves forward! Then you jump on and slide with the mortar :D

no there is over 30 servers.
and the SPR is the new sniper. aka the Mk12 SPR (SPR = Special Purpose Rifle)
That new game mode will kick so much ***! Just need a server where all the people want to complete the objectives :)

PR attracts more serious players than vanilla Battlefield so I have good faith that people will try to complete the objectives. Smacktards will always be around after a release but give it a week and they're back to ranked servers to earn their precious stats.

Aren't those like 2 different leagues of weapons? An anti-material rifles are the cannons of firearms and aren't primarily used in anti-personnel roles (hense anti-material).
It's like comparing an Abrams to a Bradley.

I must say I cant wait for this update. I tried the current version of PRM and it friggin ROCKS! It's so much more intense and fun to play because u need to be careful. u cant just run into the bf like a madman like in original bf2. And it's ALOT harder since
1. u get killed very easily, like u would irl.
2. u dont have the red markings over enemies heads so u really gotta keep your eyes open.
3. u cant run as fast.
4. the sniping is impossible for me now, the bullet drop seems to be alot more here then in original bf2.
5. u dont see the hitmarks, the red cross, when u hurt someone or kill somone. so the only way to see if u killed someone from a great distance is to look at the scoreboard. and u dont see user killed user either.
6. playing a medic is harder since u cant throw around medpacks. u gotta be near the person who u wana patch up.
7. the rifle and gun sounds are AWSOME. playing support has never been so much FUN! :D
Keep this **** going because it rocks bf2 any time!
I just wish more ppl would realize this so the 30+ servers would be more occupied!

just played this for an hour or two there. what fun i hyad. very cool, so much harder and the usual spray and preyers are in for some trouble. I loved the team work

Thank You Guys. I'm really loving the proposed changes, all the releases to date, and the 'big picture' leading to PRM 1.0. Great Job.

u know it would be kinda cool with a 2006 d-day kind of map. beach attack alliance vs axis. boats only and turrets up on the hills etc. with stuff in the sand to take cover too. and various strategy plans to take the beach and the uper hill bases. I think it would be a very cool map for this mod.
hmm I just saw this in the change log:
- Removed Ammo Kit and Ammo Ability from Support Class
are u saying support wont be able to support with ammo anymore? it will just be a class with a heavy gun?
if so then I am deeply disapointed..

if its like the medic bag u cant spam the bags everywhere you have to stand beside the person. however i do recall seeing ammo bag when i played there so i am quite possible completely wrong

eggman here, I'm a PR dev... regarding ammo kits, we removed them from support and put them onto the assault class. also we've changed how they behave quite a bit over their old behaviours... they are more like mini supply crates now.

I dont see why one would mess with the existing classes. to me this is as awkward as if u would give the sniper rifle to the anti-tank class..
and is it so good to give infinite ammo to the noob tube?
sorry but this doesnt sound so good to me. I hope u guys either reconsider this drastic change or that it will be awsome..I doubt it will be the latter though :/
hopefully this wont make me abandon this awsome mod, I love it as it is now.

If you have played PRMM before, you will know that hand nades do a HELL of alot of damage. Then letting the support having infinity of them, + a supar duper gun with unlimmited ammo, with a huge mag, brillant accraucy = SPAM!
And the ammo bags will act like mini supplie crates as in they will only reload you slowely, and have a limmited ammount of ammo like a supplie crate. Also im pretty sure that they will not be able to reload GL nades amoungs other stuff and you will have to find a supplie drop or a hummer/transport chopper to get more ammo.

IF you played PRMM you will know that the support class is best used to support the squad by laying down surprise fire so that the rest of your squad can move up much like real life. Not to carry ammo bags around with him....

I hope u get my point atleast.Because theres no such thing as a 'Support Class; in real life that runs around with a LMG and carries ALL the ammo. However, there ARE Auto-Riflemen, who carry the LMG's. Their job is NOT to supply everyone with ammo.
Whats more realistic, its for riflemen to carry ammo, or it would be spread evenly throughout all the soldiers. (So they could give ammo and such to eachother when needed, and none carry too much weight) Of course sometimes in real life they might give one guy the job to carry ammo, one guy MRE's, etc...but there is no overall 'Support' Class. Take note this is still PR Mini-Mod, and definantly not the end of the mod. Feel free to post some constructive critism on the Project Reality forums.

Yes, I know. But still u havent answered me as to why u would give the ammo giving feature to the assault class. They are more the cannon fodder noob tubing guys and gals imho. Support lay back and give support fire and ammo.
I think it's a mistake to take this feature from the support class. But we'll see.
Cant wait to see the other features though. Definitely will make a hell of a mod.
And yes I HAVE played PRMM Rhino..it's the only thing I play these days.

We had intended to do more with the class system in PRMM 0.3 than we were able to. We ran into a roadblock in that the BF2 unlock system is not open to modders .. EA patched that closed in BF2 1.03.
The intent was to create a basic Rifleman class and, as per most real world armies, the basic Rifleman would carry the spare ammo for the SAW gunner. The Rifleman would not have a grenade launcher.
However we decided to go ahead and move it to the Assault class
anyways.
Also the changes to the ammo kits should prevent spamming of thatever thing that can be spammed by the ammo kit carrying class.
This is just the *next* release of PR, not the *last* so we will continue to make changes based on player feedback.. and once we finalise how we are going to make the class system work, we'll make another set of changes... hopefully for the next major release.

I can tell you've never been in the military. Coming from someone who has actually carried the SAW there is no way possible to carry extra ammo. The 249 itself averages 18lbs. depending on what version you carry. A rifleman carries the extra ammo for the saw gunner. I believe the direction they are going is good.
