We here at TotalBF2 (http://www.totalbf2.com/) have something very exciting to share with you today. Our newly acquired, and very dedicated, staff member Jofaba has written a preview for the upcoming BF2 mod US Intervention (http://usi.jarhedz.com/). Jofaba, Sevigon, and I were able to be a part of "FragFest," a community beta test of the current mod version. We were very pleased with the mod and you all are in for a real treat. Okay, let me explain something about USI right off the bat: you're either going to love it, or you're going to hate it with every fiber of your soul. And I've got a feeling even the people that hate it are going to play it with a masochistic, and just downright frightening, intensity.

As soon as I spawned, it was mayhem. I figured the other people on my team who had previous contact with the mod knew something that I didn't so I joined in on the mad rush for vehicles and cover. Now, this wasn't your standard “I'm gonna get the jet first” kind of struggle. And I quickly figured out why after my first time in the air. The balance in this mod is... complicated. But more on that later.

I'd like to thank the USI team (I know they're watching) personally. I had an awesome time testing this mod, and was glad they gave us the opportunity.

Awesome preview. Now I'm even more hyper to play the mod.

Thanks for new screenshots. Saddam looks great :) Also, I like the look of that M4(?), it looks really detailed.

Yeah nice one... looks like fun. Now we sit back and wait so we can enjoy the pleasures of a mod, and get out of this stupid ranking corperate spell EA has put on us. I hope people will pull away from ranking and play the mods. I know I will.

hmm dont know why i dont have that usi mod team thing under my name, but anyways, just to clear some things up: The f16 has 6 AA missiles with no reloads, and the a10 and su25 have air to ground missles that fire quite fast

On the A10, there are 19 A2G missiles, correct? ;)

Currently, the A-10 has 14 A2G Hydra rockets (Su25 has more) but is carrying no A2A missiles (like the Su25). The two fighters (MiG-29/F16) each carry 6 A2A missiles (no reloads). So, really, no plane has more than 6 missiles (the fighters) while the bombers have no missiles :D Hope that helps clear it up!

I like the look of those city maps but do these maps have buildings which you can go into.

Bf2 has bugger all and its something i miss from Dc which had heaps of statics which offered protection, ambush possibilities and hiding places.

I know what you mean m8. Unfortunately, atm we're limited to using BF2 statics which means that the majority of buildings are not enterable. We're planning masses of statics for future releases, but to include them in our 0.1 release would cause a delay which we find unacceptable atm. Hope you'll understand when you get playing ;)

Nice read!

Im really looking forward to this mod.
That city map is huuuuge! allthough I didnt like the settings on that map, it have made the building look to ugliesh, bright somehow.
It would be nice to have a setting like Gulf of Oman for that map, the bright sun would really bring out the detail on those statics and the clear sky would add much more immensity to the magnitude of that city.

I hope u understand my suggestion as I only want the best for this mod cuz I damn sure will be playing it soon!

You have to have new sounds. Usually this means some new or recycled weapon discharges, maybe a new “Pffffffft!” for a rocket launcher. But USI claims that the majority of the sounds are not only new, but custom created for the mod, and I don't find that hard to believe. This includes brand new vehicle, weapon, and personal movement sounds. There's also the added bonus of a Com radio that's always active in ground vehicles. It's the first thing I noticed and truly adds a taste of realism to the game. And it didn't seem to overpower VOIP programs enough to be a negative.

It was fun for the few minutes I was able to hop on..and i am glad ya had a good time reviewing everything :)

I heard some good reviews from friends of mine who played. Nicely done team. Cant wait to hear everything, being a sound guy myself.

Nice touch with the radio in the humvee, I like all the extra ambience i can get.

Sweet preview/review, looking forward to it!

One thing though. What do you guys mean by "no reloads"? Does this mean, once you expend all your missiles, you can't simply overfly the airfield to reload? What do you need to do to restock then? If you had to actually land and sit for a few seconds on the runway, that would be awesome! Would be a perfect way to hold back plane whoring and raping.

No, he means that you can't reload a plane in the air... errr that just confuses you even more.

Okay, basically it means you have six missles instead of 6 missles and then another 6 after you expended the first six even if you didn't fly over an airfield to reload. Hope this helps?

I think he actually meant that, you only have 6 shots but you can still rearm by flying over an airfield. The no-reload refers to that it's not like a helicopter where after 8 shots* it reloads, and you have another 8 shots ready..

It was really great to play USI at Fragfest.. Was a lot of fun..
The Infantry Fights are really impressive.. and i owned all :-)

It's a great game.. you'll love it..
the important thing is, it makes a lot of fun.. it's a fast and immense feeling.. The sounds are really great.. and at last.. The A10 rocks really :laugh:

Loved the review, everytime something impressived you guys it felt great. Like giving that awesome gift on christmas that makes the other person cry or like go crazy.

Glad you enjoyed all the detail, but again... you have only tasted a piece of the mod. Only a Small... Small piece.

But anyway, If this is what we're talking about, why even mention it? It's a n-brainer; of course there would be no auto-reloads on any of the aircraft. It's not like there are any for any of the jets already ingame.

Because the one with all the toys is truley awesome.
Totally different gameplay, you get that old feeling of freedom of the map, that 1942 used to offer, you can go miles away and do your own thing, or hop into the action.

That was fun last night,only stopped playing after around 7 hours.Even better was new victims to knife,sticking it to the same guys week after week just doesn't do it for me anymore ;)

i had a great deal of fun at the fragfest. the mod is really nice, the new vehicles and handweapons are immaculately created and coded. i saw a few floating statics but i'm sure this will be fixed in due course.

HMMWV Avenger rocks ;) During the Fragfest last night I teamed up with another one and the pair of us did a circuit of the map swatting things out of the sky! Course, it was all fine and well until two lone HMMWVs came across a bloody T72. Let's just say that ended our fun!

Thats a lightmap problem. They havent been generated yet.
(An object needs Lightmaps rendered to show shadows and a darker side ;))

If you had to actually land and sit for a few seconds on the runway, that would be awesome!
You can taxi the planes easy by pressing the "arrow up/down", "a" and "d" keys.
You can even turn on the spot with the planes :cool:

and the player skins are the same
No they are not :p I tried to make them realistic. Thats why the iraqi skins are green.

I doubt highly that the USI guys would reinstate the Dolphin Diving fiasco. I cant wait to play a new city map. The close quarters C4\shotgun\grenade fest in thier will be a total bloodbath.

IRL it takes the A-10 more than 20 seconds of continous fire (without overheating) to deplete it's ammunition.

If you need to brake quickly, just fire off your main gun :p

Well if your team is making DC for BF2, then it has to have dive + fire and jump + fire to live up to the dynamics of the original.

We're not making DC for BF2. We're making US Intervention. It's a different game altogether although it is set in roughly the same time period as DC. We're doing things our own, unique, way :) Dolphin diving is not one of those things.

Well, it may not have the same balancing and feel as DC, but the style of the maps and the skins look very closely to what Desert Combat has done, that is why people are comparing it to DC. This connection is comming from more the screenshots than the review, possibly.

Oh of course man. I mean, who hasn't taken some inspiration from what Trauma did? My point though is that we're not actually trying to recreate DC in the BF2 engine. We're doing our own thing although some of the vehicles are similar (DC had an Abrams, we have an Abrams, DC had a Bradley (although an M2A3 ;)), we have a Bradley (M2A2 ;))). How many other mods use these vehicles though, because they're in use by modern militaries?

Anyways, just a minor point.

Plenty of them do, I know that. I was just responding to why people kept comparing DC to USI, though from what I've read and seen, they are in reality two different animals, with some similarities.

Any mod with modern vehicles is instantly slated as A DC clone for no reason other than that it shares the same vehicles. The problem is, we kinda have to, seeing this is the conflict we have chosen to represent.

But hey, if people say it reminds them of DC, I guess it can't be too bad, seeing DC was a big part in what made BF42 live on ;)

Amen brother. Desert Comabt is what got me into modding, and fanatical play online. To aspire to the fun level they gave us all (and make your own experience for the fans) could be nothing short of great.

Lets get this baby on my hard drive, I want to play that docks map!!!:cool:

I know your not copying DC, and it isnt a DC clone, but it shares simular vehicals. What I was saying orignally, is that people connect it to DC becuase of similar models and the way the maps seem to look. This does not mean that USI is a DC clone, and I've was not trying to say that, I just said that people were connecting it to DC because of simiar things. Oh, and I've played DC before, and from the description, the gameplay will be much more different than DC was (not saying DC wasn't bad, but Im especially looking forward to USI).

I have been looking forward to all these mods, POE2, USI, DCON, etc... Anyway i never realy looked at usi, ive mainly been reading about poe2, And man i can tell you this review has shifted up my top 10 mods. I am realy looking forward to this mod. GOOD JOB SO FAR USI team. Im also verry exited that there is new grrreat sounds as i was disapointed with the vanila bf2 sounds. CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now is the time to get into MODs, thats for sure. Have you played Peacekeeper yet? I am shocked at that MOD, didnt really know about it till it was released, and I play it all the time.:cool:
