The team behind the Forgotten Hope 2 (http://forgottenhope.bf1942files.com/main.php?module=&lang=english&flash=yes&mod=) mod are back today with a new update. As always, they have some nice new media to show. Here's what they had to say:
Today’s first item, the Hawker Hurricane was the main fighter of the RAF through the early stages of World War II. Most of the German planes shot down by British aircraft during the Battle of Britain were downed by Hurricanes, which while slower than the newer Supermarine Spitfire, was highly resistant to damage, maneuverable, and perhaps most importantly, was available in much larger numbers. As more Spitfires became available, Hurricanes were gradually replaced as a frontline fighter, and many were relegated to more specialized roles such as ground attack. Over 14,000 Hurricanes were built during the war.
The version shown today is a Hurricane Mark IIC, which entered service early in 1941. The IICs were equipped with an improved Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine, which gave a maximum speed of about 334 miles per hour, and carried four Hispano-Suiza 20 mm cannon. The Hurricane Mark IIC was modeled and skinned by Lobo.
<a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/164%20-%20hurricaneiic_01.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_164%20-%20hurricaneiic_01.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/big57.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_big57.jpg"></a>
Our second item today is the Ordnance ML 3 inch Mortar, which was a standard weapon used by British infantry from its introduction in the 1920s and throughout the Second World War. The Mark II version could fire a 10 lb (4.54 kg) projectile 2750 yards (2525 m), and could be loaded with HE or smoke. It was usually transported by vehicle, although it could by broken down and carried by three men, when necessary. The 3 inch Mortar was modeled by Primo_itch, skinned by ctz and McGibs, and normal mapped by ctz.
<a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/big62.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_big62.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/164%20-%203inchmortar_02.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_164%20-%203inchmortar_02.jpg"></a>
Our last images for this week, are of a sandbag-walled North African section of trench, to provide a place to dive for cover when the mortar and Hispano-Suiza shells start to fall. The trenches were created by Lobo. These trenches are something of a "proof of concept" project, so expect to see more like them in the future.
<a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/164%20-%20trench_01.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_164%20-%20trench_01.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/164%20-%20trench_02.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_164%20-%20trench_02.jpg"></a>
It seems this mod gets more and more impressive with every update. Visit their site (http://forgottenhope.bf1942files.com/main.php?module=&lang=english&flash=yes&mod=) to learn more.

Those hispano's should rip through most things except the heavy tanks.

20mm hispano's wont hurt a medium either...

The Hispano 20mm 404 cannon's semi armour piercing incendiary round can penetrate 25mm at 60 degrees at 200 metres of rolled homogenous armour.

As you can check in this pic even a medium tank like the panzer 3 has more than 25 mm in all its parts (except maybe the top of the turret)

I love planes. That hurricane is amazingly good. I wish I could model/skin like you, Lobo. :)
p.s.: I ripped apart 5 planes in a row in a Spitfire on El Al today(FH). So now I'm in love with it. I can't wait to see the FH2 version of it.

thanks for the history lesson
hahaha just read those figures out loud to yourself and you will see why i am laughing.
firstly, 25mm armour penetration is only going to graze anything but the early model panzer 2's and to an even much lesser extent the first panzer 3's (most having minumum 30mm armour). so 20mm hispanos are not even going to effect medium tanks - as they are only just penetrating light AFV's.
secondly - from your diagnosis - to even potentially penetrate 25mm of armour you have to hit it near perpendicularly at extremely close range whilst flying in a vehicle going in excess of 300mph.
So i really think you are over emphasising the hispano's power hahahaha.
figures have a great potential for completely distorting reality... as you can now see ;)
EDIT^^^^^ damn Lobo beat me to it!!!

If it is, omg I can't wait.
Also, does anyone play BF42 anymore and is it any good? I like Day of Defeat over CS so I'm wondering if I play the wrong game.
Thanks in advance for tolerating my ignorance.

FH was one of the most popular mods for BF42, and probably the mod with highest overall quality. From your screenshots it looks like you are maintaining the same level of detail or even improving it. My only fear with this mod is that it may take a while between releases. If I remember correctly DC had a release each month and I really think they benefited from that, I don’t think FH had the same high pace, I guess due to the incredibly high number of vehicles and armies.
I think FH2 would benefit from a less ambitious scope (at least if it’s as ambitious as FH42 was) in the beginning, maybe release a smaller version of FH so people can download it and play it, then you can expand on it and release everything you have planned.
Just my point of view, keep it up anyway!
..well back to the future. ;)

I played FH quite alot during the BF42 period and really liked it, and when I was modding I was also supposed to do a map for them, but I joined Dice before I got the chanse.
But my point was that they always had so much content that it felt like they were never going to get their mod finished, or at least to a more finished state. I would hate it if I had spent night after night modeling a really nice tank (well if I could model anyway) but never get to see it in game, so sometimes it can be good to cut down the scope and focus on a first basic release. First versions of Desert Combat was very basic but the mod evloved during a long period of time.

Hey..Bogomil!
Just a question to clarify a rumour I´ve been hearing for ages.
Dont want to put u against the wall or something, I have the upmost respect for u and the company ur working for. Is it true that the BF2 mod editor DICE provided for the community is an early beta version and not the same version DICE was working with when the editor was released to public?

Now, these mortars, can they actually be used?

Ofcourse the mortars can be used. FH1 even has mortars in it. It is a useable weapon usually it's in a fixed position or it can be picked up in a main base as a support kit.

Too many awesome mods coming out, never downloaded a total conversion mod for any game though. Do i basically have to copy BF2 again (for the mod) so that i can run the mod & Vanilla whenever i feel like?
If so, my HD won't like this at all.. :hmm:
Looks too good to miss...

Nah any proper mod should install cleanly in its own subfolder in your BF2 folder. In the old days, sometimes you needef to duplicate the game to install a mod, but certainly not for BF2. A regular mod (like FH2 or all of the other full conversions I know of) should not affect the main BF2 files or any other mods. You can play whichever mod you like, or the unmodded original game.

Will you have Mosquito's in the Mod? I imagine you may have Defiants in the Mod due to the time period even if it was a flying coffin. What about Gladiators? I do know they served in that area as well however, I don't think it would be so fun to go up agaist a 109 or even a 110 in a Gladiator.
You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to this fantastic looking mod. Thanks guys.
