View Full Version : Rise of Kobol Mod Update

There is some exciting news posted today over at the Rise of Kobol (http://www.bsgmod.com/) mod website. They have a release date scheduled as well as some new media. Take a look:

If all goes as planned we will release our first build, Beta .05 of “Rise of Kobol” on Friday, May 5th 2006. We are currently securing dedicated servers so everyone will be able to play as soon as they have downloaded and installed the mod. If any one is interested in providing some RoK servers please contact me through the Official RoK forums. This will be a big day for us and we look forward to playing online with all of you.

What the build will include: One playable Zero G space combat 64, 32, and 16 player level with Colonials vs. Cylons. This takes place on an asteroid conquest style to control the Cylon Tylium mine. You will be able to pilot the Viper MKII or Prototype Cylon Raider (TNS Raider) with a fully working FTL function controlled with the Squad Leaders “T” ComRose.

This is not your everyday BF2 mod with a new experience you’ll surely love. See you Friday and “So Say We All”! Until then enjoy these whips of our Colonial Raptor (won’t be in the first build) and the in-game Tylium Mine image.

This team is small but powerfull.

Ari and Sven have helped DCon in the past and we hope this release is a huge sucess.

Sven can speed model like no other. And Ari is just one of those guys every team would be lucky to have.

If you try only one future mod.... make it ROK!

you guys are awsome. I watched most of the latest season of bsg and it was pretty sweet. I been watching bsg since the mini series came out. i even saw some of the really old 1970 episodes which were sort of bad acting. and ever since i saw the mini series i have wanted to fly vipers raptors and raiders.

i have a question though. what will the weapons be for this mod because in the second to last episode of the latest season of bsg the rescue mission team used g36s and other H&K weapons. They also had an ingram mac 11 in one of the episodes.

thank you for releasing. this mod is my very favorite mod of all of them

Looks spectacular, and not one red cent from what i can tell is from BF2..
So original a mod with so many interesting and great features.
And if you have been following the mod, you know they have working "Zero G" flight physics.

Thank you all for the feed back. Yes we are a small team and hope to grow. Remember this is only a .05 beta and there will be issues that we will work on and fix. My plan for RoK was and is to involve the community with the growth of RoK. Back are the days of the mod and the community growing along with each other.

Also, there will be a Getting Started read me with some pointers on the Zero G, Short FTL system and setting up your 6 degrees of freedom controls.

I started, designed and produced this mod along with learning to code, make effects, designing the level, creating the HUD graphics, building a website/forums, and even build an installer. It’s been so much learning and so much work that admittedly I am a bit nervous and excited to welcome the BF community into the development cycle of Rise of Kobol. I really hope you enjoy it and have fun growing with us and the mod.

Good update lads. The map is looking far better now. You just need to put in some turrets ;)

Is there the mining shaft that Apollo used to get into the centre of the base? Either way it's looking great. Not too sure about the Raptor skin.

Looking forward to it, hopefully we will have some decent Australian servers too - I guess this style of gameplay would work at 16 players quite well - but will there be enough 'ship'craft for 64 players to use vehicles?

Aww Lex, no Mining Shaft... how can i show off my skills in the Viper? I assume you'll be putting in an astroid map akin to that shown in Season 2 with the evil Cylon pilot (can't remember his name now, was it Scar?).

In all seriousness, this along with pirates are the mods i'm really looking forward to playing. It'd be very interesting to look at your space combat and pirates sword play, those being the two things we're looking to introduce in later stages of our own mod.

1 Question; What future gameplay modes have you considered?

i gots me a question....u know the ftl function...just wondered how it wud b implemented, cus i can think of all the times u would line up a kill only to have him flip and "poof" hees gone then "poof" hes back, ur dead and then "poof" again....lol "poof".....forgive my crappy sound effect :P

I'd suggest people interested in this mod with questions head over to the RoK official mod site and try the forums. It's probably tough enough for Lex working on the mod, monitoring the RoK forums and answering questions here. That said, it's good to see there is interest on other forums as well =P

thanks dDub, I don't mind cause I know how it is to join forums often. I will try and answer them here to support TBF2 members.

Game modes, I want a king of the hill style, maybe Capture the flag.

FLT is limited so no pooping. :) opps, I mean poofing.

no prob Lex, i understand the multi-forum trolling myself. I think i'm up to about six BF2 related as of now ;) Wherever it is, the more the merrier for the RoK mod.

Screenshots from the Alpha got me drooling, and cannot wait 'til Beta on friday! If only the series were to come as soon as the aforementioned ... and SciFi went HD... but that's a rant for another thread in another forum.

Released? They didint released nothing and it's 6 May over here!
EDIT: Just went to BF2 files and its released there! It's about 88MB Large!
