Paintball Mod Released

Recently, a German mod that goes by the name Paintball Open Source (http://paintballmod.bf2-mods.de/deutsch/index.php) have released their first version. it doesnt work for me, i try to load the map on single player and like 5 seconds after i click the join game button my whole game crashes..no error.

Are you running the mod on low, some mods have to have medium and higher settings to let it run without crashing.

It crashes because you can't play in single player. You have to download (or run) "BF2ServerLauncher". Then where it says "Default" theres a plus sign to the right. Click on that, and come up with a name. Doesn't matter what. Then click on Maplist, the down arrow where it says "bf2" and choose the mod. Then change the number of players to start to "1" and then click "start". Wait for it to reach 100%, then log into the server by choosing "Join Local".

The only hard part is that you might have to copy the map folders to the bf2serverlauncher folder. Good luck!

after playing for about 15 minutes i kinda liked it. VERY short round, almost like CS, a new feel for bf2. No respawn so don't die. REALLY small maps too, could use to be a tad bigger. The mod seemed pretty good, no crosshairs tho :(, and only one paintball gun and no other weaponds, and no vehcles :(. Some quick screenies

for what it is its fun. the maps need to be atleast double the size that they are for any sort of sustainable gameplay. 15 second round dont appeal to many people.

id like to try it perhaps on the 16player gulf of oman or something, i dunno. the play ares just need to be incresed to keep people interested

also the addition of a crosshair or atleast an 'iron sight' aim view would be good.

i tried it but the dumb part is the rounds are less than a minute and there needs to be an aim er. i think its cool that like on a paintball gun they have a double trigger and on the mouse if you click both clicks back and forth it shoots faster.

Anyway fun lil mod. I had quite a bit of fun, which suprised me. However, I would like some woodland maps as well...I get tired of playing speedball over and over...gets a lil repeditive (at least as a game)

I hate the join game screen after every round.

the only thing thats bad about this mod is that it doesnt take any skill to win. unlike real paintball where it helps if you are cautious and you dont just run around the map firing at random in this that is just what you do. there isnt much strategy to this. i tried to flank but its really hard cause theres no time to do a text chat to plan out your tactics

otherwise this is a sweet mod, i love the idea and i am sure it took a long time to make, but either make a wooded area with a diffrent type of game mode where you transport a hostage or something, anyways maybe youy cant do that. this mod you wont get tired of it for a while cause its so fast paced and if you get killed you always wanna get back at someone which is awsome.

it just is annoy8ing that they dont have outdoor type ones like in real life, not like one of the espn paintball arenas for tournaments.

Very unique mod. I personally go paintballing about 2-3 times a month, and I really enjoy it. However... when I go paintballing, 80% of the time I'm not in an arena. This mod would be l33t if there were woodland maps, desert maps, a warehouse map, or anything else of that nature. ;) Also... just because it's paintball doesn't mean you can't have vehicles. Many very serious paintball teams insert and extract via chopper and/or humvee. There should be a variety of guns, different types of camo, and maybe even different paintball types.

Now I understand that all of this requires work, but hey, I believe there's enough help out there, and a large enough community to back this kind of a mod. I'll even help out in any way possible... I do web design and development. Shoot me a PM.

its quite good, but didgital paintball still is the owange paintball mod, but I can see this mod may bet it, if they can implemeant leaning that would be kewl, but still not too bad for a first release cant wait for more releases :)

Unrared the exe file to the same dir. that the rar/zip file was in.
Opened the exe file and installed it.

just tried it out on g3 server..... nice mod!!!!! as many have said already, rounds are a bit short and the "start-screen" at the beginning of each round is a bit annoying....
even though: BIG applause to the creators of this mod!!!!!!

PS. easy and smooth installation with a nice and handy desktop-icon :-)

Also remember that you need 2gb of space left free on your harddrive to run mods properly. If you don't, it WILL crash.

Mod; Looks like alot of fun. The map however looks tiny. Should be more of a 3v3 map to me. As someone above me has said, paintball like skirmishing is often in woodland or old industrial areas. If they had an indoor map, that would be far more unique and addictive.

So this may be a silly question, but do Mods at all screw up the original game play? If I install the Paintball mod, will it casue issues with the the basic BF2 or does it just add maps where I can play the paintball version? Many thanks!

Ok, ive downloaded it and installed it. But when i try to view my "custom games" in BF2 it crashes. When i boot as paintball mod, it crashes as soon as i click "multiplayer".

What should i do?

You've never shot a paintball marker have you... I don't think he has, im gonna play it and see how "straught" they do go though cause if they shoot like stingrays or something they do need just a tad bit more of an aim :P as for the no crosshair, I completely understand why because you don't "aim" in paintball really, but in a game you need some sort (no idea what type) of site though, its hard to steer away from a crosshair so im idealess there, it appears this is there first releash so maybe thats why there is only 1 gun, map, ect.

God, that guy ****ed me off.

This mod should have friendly fire turned off, because with the map sizes being too small, it's hard sometimes to NOT TK on accident.

Unless your Nexar, in which case, you can TK no matter where you are :mad::mad:

What i dont like about this, is that it doidnt work until i followed the lan server setup instructions on page 2 of this thread. Furthermore you cant look down the marker, and there is no crosshair to make my shooting near accurate. But overall, if there were servers runnin this mod, it would be totally awesome with like 64 people!

End Delay it's called.

I would love to see a bigger field and I'm partial to woodball too. Hopefully a future version will have different markers as well. It should also be easier to identify friend from foe, now the only clear sign is the marker colour.

It looks like more of a mod for maybe 10-16 people at most. I like games like that because it is a sweet spot. I don't like servers in BF2 above 40 because thats a sweetspot for me but in this game 10-16 seems abotu right to keep rounds going.

Hey guys this mod looks good, but I'm thinking that beings the mod is dead and open source I would be able to toy with it at my will right? I was thinking of researching on how to mod and adding classes (you know front man back man etc...) and if that goes well building a server if anyone has any input that would be great (or knows of a server still running) thanks :D
