As the guys over at the US Intervention (http://usi.jarhedz.com/) mod gear up for their first release, they have some exciting news today. They have released a teaser trailer for their mod as well as a list of what can be found in the first release. Take a look:
May 9-12 marks the most exciting days to be a gamer. A chance for game developers around the world to throw breath taking media at you at the E3. Unfortunately we thought it’d be best if we stayed home this year and
put the finishing touches on the first version of US: Intervention! Hang In there folks, something tells me your wait for a total conversion mod are drawing to a close.
To mark this great week off with a bang we have this to for you. A movie directed, edited, composited by "notre cinéaste en herbe" MarkHawk and US Intervention Beta Testers. To do a video with those two would really take away from the mod tbh. Those are so beautifully awesome that you can only truely appreciate them first hand while laying waste to a column of armour rolling across the desert!

I believe it said 9 new weapons... I only saw the new m4 and RPG-7. I'm sure you did that on purpose though, didn't you?! ;)
About the movie:
It started out very well, up untill ~1:50 it was very exciting. Unfortunately, after that, the randomness of the shots was bugging me and the plot made little to no sense. Another thing, it got very laggy, hardware issues?!
Ex.: When we see 2 Iraqi Spec Ops, they are just shooting for no reason, and why are they doing it? Also, didn't see any reaction from them when the helicopters and the buggy fly/drive by. Really weird.
It really needed a lot more voice-over, that would've helped a lot. Or at least some text to read. Basicly, it felt like the movie just dragged on and on, with little action involved.
The ending (~5:00) was pretty well done. Except the part when they are just WALKING to the buggy, with about a dozen soldiers shooting at them. Oh wait, I forgot...they're American - Best Special Ops in the world. Nothing can kill them...*sigh*
I have to say, the plot was really lame/weak - with USA always winning. How original...:rolleyes:

you guys at usi, i just dont understand you, i talked with mark hawk and uh60 pilot and they promised me that it would come out last week probably on monday and at latest on saturday or sunday. well thanks for delaying for the fifth time about the release date, first it was march 12th, then it was april 10th, then it was late in april, then it was early may and you promised it would be within the next week, and now you are promising it will be in the next few days, YOU ARE WORSE THAN EA ABOUT RELEASE DATES, i have said in the past that i love your mod and i still do, it looks like the best one out there. you just cant keep telling us that it will come out and then disappoint us. MARKHAWK and UH60 PILOT wow. at least markhawk you said you were sorry that you spread the april 10th thing. Seriously though how can you keep delaying after giving us promises of this amazing mod. Do you know how many countless times every night i have checked back at your site and at totalbf2 and bf2files.com for news of your mod coming out?
TELL ME WHY?
i love your mod and this shouldnt affect how much i will love it when it comes out but until then give me some reason why you can be trusted with a release date in the future

Chill out, they are working on an awesome mod. This isnt easy stuff what there doing and they didnt release it yet because they are trying to make it the best it can be for a first release.

be a little patient with the USI team, from the testing i have done with them you wont be dissapointed so theres no need for the "EA Like bashing"
USI Have given up there time to create a mod for the the public for free and expect everyone to be as patient as possible, For tho's who gave you a release date they should have known better then to spread a date around. But thats in the past now so just relax wait a few more days and just have patience.

Love honesty though if you don't mind I am going to respond, just so things are clear. I do appricate all feed back.
The US by no means "Win" They lost 1 BlackHawk, 1 M2A2, 1 Special Ops, and 1 guy out of the chopper.
But they also in no way loose, Killing 2 Iraq Special ops, 1 T-72, 1 Engineer, and 3 Assult. Of course they also blow up 2 Unmanned and 1 Manned Brd but when you loose the innichative(spelling?) you can't really "win"
I was going for tie, I never like the typical Go america feeling, but hey go America!

As for dragging, this is the extended edition :D I put most of the fucus of my attenion in what you'll see in the intro. But I did use almost 80% redone sounds. Only 20% uses sounds recorded ingame instead, uses the soruce files of the sounds that are ingame instead. Including tons of new voices not in Vanilla BF2 normally.
Yes 9 new weapons, we have our surprsies. I'll speak of these in later days to come.

man stop defending them i want an answer from the actual team not another fan. I am one of the biggest fans of this mod. i just want to hear from the team that they are sorry and they wont give us release dates if they are going to delay it months after the time they proposed to us. and if these mod teams are going to tell us when they plan to release then instead of waiting until a few days after they say it would come out to tell us the new release date, tell us that they wont be able to make the date. its just dissapointing that they would make people keep refreshing their browsers so they can see the mod news of a great release. on 5 occasions they have made this mistake. cmon i know it is extremely hard to make a mod when you dont even get payed and you have to spend all of their time, but if they dont want to do it then they dont have to. as with any busness even if it is non profit, you are required to go by what you say. not try and pretend that you can keep postponing. you have loyal consumers like me who want to see you guys succeed but dont want to wait 2 months extra from your first release date

WHOA! Hold on a second buddy, One I've talked to you outside these post maybe once, and I never said a thing about when USI would be released. And I am not going to be tricked into saying it now.
We have had 1 Delay. That was March 12th and Im not going to go into it other then it was for the best.
No date in april was ever given. In a teaser it said coming in April and I have already said that was my fault. We wanted to add items to please the public not rush things.
No other dates were given ever. I said it would be released soon but never ever gave you a date, so next time you attack a mod just remeber all of our hard work is for your pleasure and ours. We get nothing other then feedback to fuel our work.

About the movie:
It's a preview teaser for the mod. It's not meant to be a cinematic movie with an elaborate script or acting despite how it may be portrayed. Nothing more, nothing less. Every effort was made by Mark to make it as enjoyable and authentic looking/sounding as possible - eg, notice how the guys mounted the Blackhawks? That's military experience dictating that scene.

I'm sorry m8, but we've only ever released one precise date (March 12) and we've explained that in the past. The Streets teaser did say April (we never said April 10th despite what certain team members may have told you, it was not official), but I think you'll forgive that slight delay given what you'll receive.
Relax guys, you're going to be playing this sooner than you realise ;)

only complaint is when the US dood kills the iraqi dood on the stairs: he really lays into him with bullets but he still has time to turn around, so it seemed pretty weak..

Player Skins are new, and tons of custom Statics are in the mod. This Video isn't from the final build and sorry to say this video doesn't do the final build justice, there just so much more. I know my Video doesn't show all that but it shows a level of professionalism we are aiming for even in something so simple as a teaser videos. No worry Jimbob a lot of what your looking for may/or may not be (I can't say anything) already in the final build or in the works.

That's unfair. We've already said that there has not been five delays. By your logic you could announce that we're going to release tomorrow and if we don't that'll be the sixth delay. Come on, be fair.

Consumers by their nature pay for a product or a service. This mod is being released free. People who download and play it are fans, not consumers.
I aprpeciate that you're looking forward to the mod (who'd blame you after all :D ), but you need to realise some things about the situation as I've pointed out above.

I guess by that nature then, very very very few mods can be considered a Total Conversion.. I think the "Total Conversion" aspect is more in keeping with "we're not just tweaking BF2 vehicles and settings and releasing it, we're doing more than that by making it into a completely new atmosphere and game dynamic with nearly all new content". USI has a familiar BF2 feeling, but it's a totally different game imho. Who knows, maybe by 1.0 there'll be nothing from BF2 left ;)

Let me clear a few things up for you guys about the delays. The first release date was set by one of our old coders, and we decided that we would not have enough content of "good" quality to release. Thats the main reason for the first delay. The second delay was as mark said his fault. Those are the main reason for all the delays. But keep in mind, we are doing this for free and many of us are still in school and right around now is exam time which = less time for the mod. Also we are a new mod team, yes it has been around since bfv, but i dont think it ever was released, so we are still learning about a lot of things. One of those being how long it takes to be sure you are ready to release and how far in advance you can anounce it. This sounds like we are giving excuses but you asked for reasons and these are them, no BS. Next time we should be better with the release dates, we will learn from our mistakes.
We appreciate your support and hope you continue to support us. I think you will be happy with the release when it comes.

It would be if I did go and say we were going to release tomorrow and we didn't release. Hence, why I'm not going to say it :P
My point above was that you were quoting dates (eg, April 10th) that we never announced and claim it was another delay when there was no release on April 10th. You may have gotten the wrong end of the stick from chatting to people, but there was never an official announcement saying that. Hence, my (somewhat exaggerated) point above about you could say that someone told you it'd be released tomorrow and if it wasn't that it counts as another delay... even when there's nothing official on it.
Man that's getting complicated to think about :D

Enough teasers, screenshots etc. already, just give us the mod. Aside from adding in new maps, models, skins etc. did you guys alter airplane/helo flight characteristics at all? Were any modifications done to how the heatseeking missiles and anti-air guns work? Same question applies to weapon accuracy as well - IMO weapon accuracy in BF2 blows. Hopefully you guys modified all of this and have your own "feel" rather than just a BF2 clone with different models and maps.

not that the video matters that much compare to the mod itself, but ill tell you what i think anyways...
overall wasnt that great, needs more editing (or for future videos). i saw a supply drop in the backround, alot of the time there were pointless scenes of these two iraquis shooting at something offscreen...i think it could have been edited down to a good 2 minute flick.
Some parts were really well done though, such as the smoke and planting of the c4's, and some of the splitting of the cameras

Yeah, random supply crates ftw! :laugh: I think that was cos the DPV driver *cough* Meow *cough* asked for a supply crate cos he couldnt drive along the wall without hitting it (who let cats driver anyway?) :D
The two iraqis, though, were meant to be doing some target practice at the cargo crate/dumpster-thingmajig :lol:
As I said above though, it's not as much a movie with a plot/story/blah, it's a preview teaser to USI. It's to get you into the mood of the mod and think "Oooh, I wanna go play that!" ;) As much as my last minute Blackhawk pull-up was beautifully timed with the RPG round so it looked cool, it's not meant to win oscars (although I'd take one if it's going :D)

Awesome, A lot of the attention was right before the opening (chopper load up) and right before the first rocket hits the chopper (pretty much seconds before c4 is placed).
The reason I added the extened footage in the extended version was because I didn't want to jump the gun on what happens between take off and getting in place. So I went back add added in this extended version what happens. Why? Because in the USI intro is different and gets right into a 2:30 long intense thing. It's a whole different feeling.
The team i worked with in this (Mostly USI and uTi clan Beta tester) were amazing. There are points where there are about 30 people in the server all going along a set path perfect. What I mean is if you look in all the scenes they match up. When the First chopper gets shot down and you see the reaction shot of the assult troop in the other chopper you can see the special ops troops moving forward. Or an easier one is when the troops are loading into the chopper there are a lot of matchup shots.
Damn Creates though, there are still people in a production you want to kill. :evil:
There is a plot, a slight plot, Get in, Blow Up, Get out. It's hard to give great plots without moving mouths but I'll tak a lot of time to figure out ways to tell it in the fututre. I mean pretty Much thats what the Movie Black Hawk Down is, Get in, Arrest Important People, get out. The best part is the thing that goes wrong and the same plot of GET OUT.

I’m too lazy to read what everybody thought about the vid, but after watching it here are some thoughts:
I really liked the map; it reminds me a lot of the DOCKS map on DC. I also loved the fact you brought back the RPG, and the Iraqi t72 tank (with new skin). However, I thought the vid was dragging a little, i lost interested after the blackhawk was shot down with an RPG. As fan of your mod and other mods I would of liked to have seen more vehicles in action, you guys been working so hard developing them so why not showcase them, you don’t have to show us (the fans) 15sec of lets say an A10 taking out a tank, just a couple of seconds to tease us and making us want MORE.
I am also a little disappointed that you guys decided to bring back the commander mode (please correct me if I’m wrong). Nothing better than driving an arty vehicle, set it up and watching everything go KABOOM.
FYI if the two Iraqi specs were republican guards, then you should add the red triangle on their uniforms :p
Lastly, I think you guys are doing a great job, keep up the good work.
P.S for allah sake take out the bf2 music from your video, be a little original ehh. :cool:

I guess by that nature then, very very very few mods can be considered a Total Conversion.. I think the "Total Conversion" aspect is more in keeping with "we're not just tweaking BF2 vehicles and settings and releasing it, we're doing more than that by making it into a completely new atmosphere and game dynamic with nearly all new content".
well, your right - there arent many total conversion mods out there. BFpirates, FH2, First Strike are examples of TRUE total conversions. That is what total conversion means - a total conversion hehe! as in, to correctly represent the fields they are covering, everything has to be remade from scratch which indeed is a tonne of work. By saying that you will be the first total conversion ("your wait for a total conversion mod are drawing to a close") you are kinda making a grab for a title which you arent really entitled to ;)
I am seriously hankering for this mod - just had to put that in perspective.

All our stuff (RPG, T72, etc) is brand new. No "bringing back" if you get me ;) The only things which arent ours is the Blackhawk and MiG-29 model (DPV/FAV is still stock atm). They're just reskinned BF2 ones to save some time. That said, it doesnt take away from anything.
Player controlled artillery is definitely in the pipeline. We decided not to include it in 0.1 though so ye guys could get a taste of USI. Definitely expect it to be present in the future.
USI commander isn't as "almighty" as the BF2 one - don't worry ;) I'll say no more!

you guys at usi, i just dont understand you, i talked with mark hawk and uh60 pilot and they promised me that it would come out last week probably on monday and at latest on saturday or sunday. well thanks for delaying for the fifth time about the release date, first it was march 12th, then it was april 10th, then it was late in april, then it was early may and you promised it would be within the next week, and now you are promising it will be in the next few days, YOU ARE WORSE THAN EA ABOUT RELEASE DATES, i have said in the past that i love your mod and i still do, it looks like the best one out there. you just cant keep telling us that it will come out and then disappoint us. Whoah whoah whoah Let's clear some things up here.
1: I never 'promised' anything. I mearly said it would be out within a couple of weeks which your mind must have inturpreted as this week.
2: The reason for the 'delays' is simple. The first couple release dates were not actually set release dates - more or less dates that were caused by rumors. The most recent one (which I believe is really only the 2nd delay) is because of some the feedback we got from our Fragfest. We have changed a few things and are getting ready for release... Fragfest was the final barrier.
Just hold onto your pants guys, it will release soon and when it does you'll all wet yourselfs! :D

If you haven't watched after that part, it really picks up and it picks up well. I did discuss the reasons for the drag but I just wanted you to know this is an extended version.

Really? You didn't like that? The Intro and Outro sort of Mock the Vanilla's BF2 intro and outro. Sort of Saying We are something differen't in the BF2 Universe but I can assure you, there are many things in this mod that you would expect to stay the same, things you wouldn't expect to be differen't till you see and hear it for yourself. :cool:

Dear USI fellows, an advice from a BF42 veteran moder, anounce an oficial release date 1 week before with the final build in your hands, fully tested and after you hit the SEND button of the mail to the websites that will host the baby, trust on me :laugh:
You never know what will happen:
1. the dog of a dev bites his hand and he can't finish the model of plane X, wich is a must
2. One dev has an horrible discussion with the girlfriend and then he can't finish the tank Y in time because he has depression
3. Somebody forget a stupid .con with 3 Kb's compiling the very final building and the whole mod crashes and cause hard disk implosions in customers
4. One hour before the oficial release the dev sending the build looses his brand awesome cable conection because his cousin forgot to pay the bills and he must run to the neighbour house to send it...he has a crappy 32k modem done in Czecoslovakia, indeed (no ofence to Czecoslovakia, you rock, hehe)
So...use the classics: When it's done
fans will say you are secretive biatches, but they will love you :D
Your mod will rock, release it when you are totally happy with it, don't hear complains about owed releases

Noone said bf2 modding is an easy thing, and lord knows creating a total conversion mod or even a normal mod for that matter is one hell of a challenge. Please dont take offense to anything i say - i only say this because if you guys do indeed try to claim "first total conversion mod" some teams actually making total conversions WILL be offended and quite rightly so.

Could do that, but then again, given the amount of time involved to accomplish, I, personally, think it better to give the public something to play with while that's being achieved. As has been said before, 0.1 releases aren't meant to be "all inclusive". I'd find it hard to believe there'll be a single BF2 mod (TC or otherwise) that wont use something from BF2 in some way or other..
Sure, there's vanilla statics and player models in there (and a couple of vehicles). Do we mind? Nope - if it helps us to give people a very enjoyable and fun mod to play while we work on all that, then I'm all for it :)

Regarding the question, no, I dont think we just did? It was always meant as a final preview teaser for 0.1. It also forms our intro movie (part of it at least). It's not intended as an elaborately complicated film with plots and characters and whatever else you want. It's purely a showcase for USI and the certain things we chose to include in it (obviously, there's a lot we didn't include that ye can see for yourselves ;))

First off, I personally said the total conversion line. One of those things you can blame me and not so much the team, but I would like to say Im a little confused.
(MarkHawk speaking and not the team. I mean No offense sorry if I sound rude, Im not perfect with picking the right words)
I know US Intervention doesn't have roots as deep as former total conversion mods but do we really have the oppertunity to just wait? US Intervention is set on total conversion (all custom textures, sounds, statics, etc) long before our final version. But we need to plant our roots early. For .1 we have a lot to offer. I can't say "what" will be there when you get to play it but I can tell you it'll be more then any mod to date. Simply saying (not that you are saying this jimbob this is a general expression.) we can only be a large conversion is some what hurtful to me because like famous total conversion mods, they used Vanilla items at some point in the begining. But the public responded to the core items and ideas so well that the fans forgot about it. It didn't matter! You don't ever here anyone go to the DC forums and go "Man this mod used Vanilla stuff in V.1 ... they so suck!"
I understand the "first total conversion" wasn't the best words but our US Intervention at where it is right now is bigger and better then the titile "Large Conversion" and that's because it is. We have the hardest total conversion in my opinion, we have to take something that is so similar and so like what gamers are use to and think "How do you redifine that and make it new?"
You can't exclude us as one but I do hear your point, sorry if my words offend any mods in production. I am a long time supporter and friend to all mods and rarly try to make enemys. My goal is to entertian people and Gamers right now they are my main concern and I am very sincere when I say this.

I personally directed the project,Goal being to show people limits on what you think can be done in Battlefield can be broken. While the action is towards the end the video shows a great deal of consistancy. Meaning things do match up. It may seem like a simple thing to do (and if it does I've done my job.) but the video is a teaser to USI and is meant to look like scripted film. I didn't want that typical shoot and edit what is good later. I wanted it all to look good and dig and pick what looked best. This was a big project and the next will only be bigger after learning a lot of what BF2, Fraps, Adobe (loads of adobe) and other various tools could do.

I am sure i know of other mods that would love to be able to use AK's and M16's - heck, lets face it, the vanilla models are good :) And as i am sure you have done, altering the weapon sounds and perhaps the texture can go along way in detaching the connection between vanilla models and bf2. As will making custom kit models help detach the connection with the player models.
As you have said - this will be your .1 (look at DC's first release as an example of "winging it" rofl!) and if you can use the vanilla models to "cut corners" on your total conversion in order to push the release then hey - i say go with it. its not like you are using the majority of them...
at the end of the day - at least you have the option ;) some mods dont even have that.

Ok rather than arguing about whether this mod is a TC or not, how about you guys just go finish it up so impatient fans like me can play sooner than later? :) And for other more ambitious mods (POE2/FH2 come to mind) I hope you guys have your mods out before Quake Wars shows up else you'll have put all that work in only to be met by a tiny shell of a community that's left BF2 for the next best thing.

My favourite bit was the guy getting shot on the stairs (me ;) :D )
Took a couple of shots as i was assault, must have hit the flak jacket and i'm from Glasgow and tuff as fu*k so takes more than a couple of 5.56 mm bullets to take my bad *** down :D .
And my 2 bobs on the discussion, even though pretty much everything has been said.
Total conversion - this is beta release 0.1 which normally incriments in .1's to final build 1.0. If you would like to wait the length of time it takes the mod to release till a final build, wait, then dust of the cobwebs and play in how many months time? In the meanwhile you get to play a pretty refined test vehicle and put in your input via forum discussion/application for beta testing.
There is a hell of a lot of stuff for a 1st release and you will appreciate this on release. Excellent work by the Dev's who's aim no doubt is too simply please and give you an enjoyable game as possible showcasing as much of there good work as possible and as refined and bug free as possible.
This is a great game, and i'm sure many of you will catch its bug and enjoy it.
Anyway, just like to be first too say.... gotta release date for .2 yet?

Hmmm......will it still take Two TOWS to take out a t-72 though? Or would one of those missles done the trick....cuzI hope it only takes one....I get tired of nilla bf2 TOWS so lame.....takes 2 just to take out a tank.
Actually were using BF2 damage system for TOW rockets. But did you know that you can take out a tank in one shot (the tracks)? Plus we have that awesome fast-attack-AT-vehicles which can fire several wireguided rockets, hunting the tanks to hell, lol. I love the BRDM2 Spandrel, it can fire 5 rockets in less than 5 secondas, making the tanks run for cover :evil:

To all the folks at USI. Keep up the good work and It looks like a very good prduct. I am thankfull you are not rushing and are taking your time. By everything I am seeing this will be a mod to remember. I will not complain bitxch or wine about when it will be released. I will just say that I will be playing the mod when it does come out, and until then waiting patiently. ANd I did love the video. The beginning was very blackhawk down movie era.

They are guided, all missiles follow the same path at the same time :p It's really fun to see 5 missiles trace the same thing haha.

ya a couple arent bad...I've said it before and ill say it again..........BF2 devs have a disc space quota...........what this means?.........Hey we need to pay for three discs.....how can we jam all the content on them without breaking the bank............USI.......no limit .....not pay for discs = the days of 1 gb FH downloads=you can add much better and alot more content...without paying the wholesale CDrom guy $1,000,000 more for overhead.

Voices are un-used BF2 commander voices and Squad Leader Voices. Not OFP
Running to the choppers is the proper authentic way to mount choppers. BHD did this as well as we do and real life does.
1 Song from BHD Sound track, just split up so it doesn't play the same.
Super 61 isn't painted on the BlackHawk Chopper, in fact it read Armageddon instead (real life) I believe and Super 64 read something with Snow . Not 100% sure. But those 2 choppers were flown in Desert storm and survived to fly later missions such as the Historical Mogadishu Operation most of you know as Black Hawk Down.
( I am talking about the real Super 61 not the one in the video)
BHD is one of my Fav. Movies. :D
Also I just heard the amazing updated sounds of the mini gun on the BH this morning and there awesome! 10x better then my movies beta sounds.

Exactly. Also, I don't believe any sounds were from OFP. To my knowledge (Mark can correct me here if I'm wrong), all sounds were from BF2. There's a tonne of sounds in BF2 that were recorded but aren't ingame - eg, "Squad 2, Squad 5, Squad 7, Squad 9".

I think the part where the choppers turned in sync reminder me of BHD. If you remember the scene with the Littebirds doing the hop up, rotate and down again in sync (that was awesome :D). That's about the height of it though.

Yes, that one scene. My point was that it was a well thought out production, and stands on its own. If you think it might be as simple as taking a movie idea, and ban its a wrap....
Then you probably dont know anything about Avid systems, and how much work it takes to get to the point where you can complete something like that video, in you spare time no less, ;) .

There comes a point where realism must bow down to gameplay and overall balance. If we made it like you suggest there, the Abrams would be invisible to the T72 while it would rape absolutely everything else on the battlefield.. that wouldn't be much fun, eh?
I don't see us ever making those things one-shot-kills. With the one exception atm which is the Hellfire/AT-2 Swatter missiles ;)

ya ........i think its pretty good the way it is now......however at one time i felt the same way about making 1 shot 1 kills.............as we add equipment you may see this for gameplay sake but dont hold me to it.............It's hard enuff in USI now to stay rape free.........like if you fly a helo you may pwn tanks but the aa WILL get you............if you drive a tank.... apcs with skilled crews or if well placed will pwn you.........if you fly a tankbusted aa and fighters will pwn you....all the way back to infantry equipped to pwn everything...almost.
the stinger and grail work very well as deterrents for helo pilots.......its fun to watch em bob and weave ......only to leave smokin............and to watch a jet being followed by these things thru the scope..............what a riot =].......you have to play....it's a blast...no pun intended.

be easy with jimbob, he is right, a total conversion must have a totally diferent theme with the original, total conversions are Surreal, Codename Eagle, Paintball mod and other mods that will come in future. Of course, yours has the same kind of ambitious scope and work in its development, is just a matter of semantic.

Nope. BF2 is using the USMC. USI 0.1 features the US Army. Our later versions will bring in the Marines though.

if it has completed waiting then click 'download ready' and click 'save' then just let it run.
if its downloaded, click 'open folder', then double click the file highlighted (which is the downloaded file)
then if it says it does not reconise it, click 'run' or 'run anyway' then it should have a wizard built in that makes it so simple to install a 6 year old could do it!
