View Full Version : Desert Conflict Mod Update - BMP2

The guys behind the Desert Conflict (http://www.desert-conflict.org/) mod are back again today with a new update. This time they are showing off their BMP-2. Take a look:
The BMP-2, or Boyevaya Mashina Pyekhota Infantry Fighting Vehicle infantry combat vehicle, fielded in the early 1980's [initially designated BMP 1981], is an improved version of the BMP-1 incorporating major armament changes. The new two-man turret mounts a 30-mm automatic gun with a long thin tube and double-baffle muzzle brake that can be used against aircraft and helicopters. The ATGM launcher on top of the turret can employ either AT-4 SPIGOT or AT-5 SPANDREL missiles, though the AT-5 Spandrel canister is normally mounted. Each side of the troop compartment has three firing ports with associated roof-mounted periscopes.

yup .. indeed piano! the renders look just greater than great itself ! but the ingame are kinda .. very low settings ?!

Agreed. These mod guys really need to take their pictures on high settings with AA and AF cranked up.

looks like low settings - shadows off - and no normal map.
diffuse looks kick *** - great work!
we turn it all the way up, why not show it how you will see it?

I would imagine that it's more because of the low settings the person who took the screenies was running on, the jaggies really detract from the model.
If you're trying to showcase a model for a mod, you definitely need to post screenies from those who can make it look the best ingame.

No this is not the the model from SF. They are just screen shots on the front page of our site to show that its working in game. Most of the updates here are gathered up by totalbf2 and copied to this forum. You should thank Spawndemon and his crew for putting all this info into one spot.
However, its just to let people know where we are at with different vehicles. Some shots will look better than others, but its not something that we are going to sweat. Thanks for the responses. I personally have been waiting for this vehicle myself. Fast, and powerfull. :cool:

If I remember right, some of the DEVs have... let's just say... not as up to date systems as some of us, lol. Hence, the less than perfect in-game shots. At least you get an idea, right?

That is a beautiful render, great detail and quality.

and in game screenies use the sv.numplayersneededtostart 1 option so you wont get the disturbing message about the game will start when 1 more player joins lol

Well actually, he probably just saw it on the front page of TotalBF2, thats how I saw it, I didn't go looking through the Mod News Forum.
But you are right, he does need to stop bitching. I'd rather have a mod team take a while to release a good, quality mod with lots of updates to show off the content, then have a quick hasty release full of bugs and other crap.

Its a free country, you can ***** all you want. Until you get into trouble, but theres plenty of rope for that. Lots of great MODs will be done before you know it, there are a couple great ones released already. No more BF2 for me, im only playing MODs, all of them.:cool:

Sorry about the low res in game screens. I knew it would not go over well, but I was burnt and it was 3 am when I finished up my work on the tweak for the night. It is far from done, so we are not gonna do the mat fixes until our final bundle is rolled off the assembly line. This will solve any issues with alpha's and such.
I always work on the low settings for the simple fact that it is the fastest way to do testing. Hoofer wanted to add some blazin' screens to the page, but I think he is working on his restaurant this week and has not had time.
As usual we are trying to post some sort of progress report daily. This is why we are willing to show our work mid stream at times. So far people seem to like watching the progress as it happens.
Thanks again to Totalbf2 for syndicating the news, it really helps people monitor our progress. Love us or hate us we are fully willing to let people watch the work as it happens.

actually i was - it was single player and if you want a screenshot you need to line it up right to get a good "f12" angle - so i didn't have a choice.
it's singleplayer and i only was playing that time for some community teaser screenshots from DC_F 1.1

Now were talkin, get this MOD to the public. Just please dont release it till the gamplay and bugs are worked out, if there is any. I would rather wait and get a balanced game, with some new content that we have never seen. As well as old faithfulls, like the BMP-2.

There is nothing wrong with the tracks, wheels, nor "belts" as you call them. On the bmp2, the spline teeth are on the outside of the inner, very narrow wheels. The in game screenies are on low, hence the bump and alpha channels are moot at that point. I'm sure someone will take a higher res in game shot during tesitng to post at some point. Thanks for the crits. Appreciate it.
Here are some shots I took while first exporting the vehicle to the editor. Mostly just me goofin around in the video. But it's a better view I suppose. :) OF COURSE... I use low settings on graphics card as well... so... and this is NOT the tweak we will use in game, I was just making sure everything works before I passed it along to the coders... as I always do. :)
