View Full Version : Patch problem HELP!
I got BF2, installed and then installed the patch (1.22). When I installed the patch I got the message "patching failed" a few times. I just kept re-running the patch exe and eventually installed the patch "successfully". However, when I tried to join servers, the game crashed to the desktop while I was connecting. It usually reached 62% "Loading objects" or something.
I reinstalled BF2 and now I cannot even install the patch anymore. Re-running the exe does not work like it had before. Also, when I try to open BF2 it just immediately crashes to desktop.
Could someone please PLEASE help me out here? I spent hours trying to get BF2 running.

Look in your "my docs\battlefield 2\dmp" folder. Open the patchlog file, at the bottom of the document should be a code referencing why the patch is failing.
Those files were just a bunch of weird characters. I couldn't really find anything telling me why the patch has failed.
This is where the patch fails every time.

Got any ideas in what I should do?

Look in your BF2 install dir for a file called PATCH.ERR and post the contents here.
I managed to install the patch successfully with NO "patching failed" errors. I have no idea how but I'm happy.
Now however I am getting this error message when trying to load maps.

Any ideas what I should do?

Ok, time to do a manual uninstall and re-install. Seems like the patch doesn't like the old file versions you have.
Follow these instructions:
http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=8986
Then re-install BF2 and then only the full v1.22 patch.
Don't install any mods or cracks or anything...just the full v1.22 patch and it should work. If no, you need to re-download the v1.22 patch from another source.
I have reinstalled so many times but I haven't done what you are suggesting. When I FIRST installed BF2 I got a "MD5 checksum error" but I chose to just ignore it. Would that have any effect when trying to install the patch?

Yes...if you encountered ANY errors during the original install, patching will have issues with it.
Make sure your disc is clean. You may need to have it replaced if you continue to have errors installing from originals.
I did the manual uninstall. I reinstalled with no errros. I downloaded the 1.22 patch from three different sources. I am STILL getting this "patching failed" error when trying to install the patch. What should I do now?

And you have no mods or cracks installed?
Are you logged in to Windows XP using an administrator account?
Yea I have no mods or anything, just BF2 only. And yes I am on an administrator account.

Are you able to install any of the other patches?
e.g. patch to v1.21 then use the incremental to v1.22?
No I tried doing incremental but got same error "patching failed".

This is a toughie...do you have any friend that play BF2 and you could try installing using their copy?
If the patch is having issues with a particular file, maybe that file is corrupt on your original copy.
Update:
I manually uninstalled then reinstalled BF2. This time I took one of my RAM sticks out and then installed the patch. VOILA it works. No patching failed errors. However when I try to join games I still get the same error (see post 5 of this thread). How am I missing files when I install BF2 with no problems AND install patch with no problems?
Anyone? Talus?

Clean your disc or borrow another copy if you can...
Sorry, but I'm running out of ideas :(
