I don't understand why in the upcoming armored fury, ea insists on calling the A-10 the warthog. First of all that is a dumb nickname, and not many people use it in real life. The actual name for that plane is the A-10 Thunderbolt which is a better sounding name and is the one people tend to use to describe this plane. Why EA insits on using warthog, is beyond me, except maybe to appeal to young players.
Anyways thats my 2 cents and going to be my main pet peav while playing this booster. Way to screw up again EA.

Its not normally called the warthog? I would have sworn thats the nickname the military uses all the time.
Either way, not a big deal.

Official name - A-10 Thunderbolt II
Nickname - Warthog
a nickname is a way of showing fondness in this case - it's not like they called a T90 an exocet or something

It's rough and tuff like a real warthog...the pilot sits in a cockpit that is encased with titanium, due to its low and slow flying style...pretty sweet that it can withstand all that beating...

Warthog was dubbed because the sound the cannon guns make when fired off of the A-10.

I hate the nickname! The correct name for the plane is the A-10 THUNDERBOLT II !!!
People call it the warthog because they think it looks ugly. I think it looks purty. :D And with its great performance record it deserves the mighty name of the......THUNDERBOLT !

I watched a military show on cable where the actual pilot of a Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt called the plane a "warthog" himself (& he said the name is derived from the looks)
Good enough for me
peace:)

Yeah, it's a term of endearment with the plane that pilots use. Pretty funny =) but I prefer "Thunderbolt".

ahh...It's most common nickname is the Warthog, And Iwould know since I work at Willow Grove Naval airbase / joint reserve and there is a squad of the A-10's there.. If you ask a pilot about its name they will say warth hog....
so there you go they are not retarted they are just using correct terminology.

Warthogs are notorious for soaking up a lot of lead from hunters before dying, & can be quite dangerous in close quarters

"Friendly Forces
The A-10 Thunderbolt II received the nickname "Warthog" or "Hog" and dates back to Fairchild-Republic's initial deliveries. The name was derived from the report of the main gun, which has a surprisingly low pitch and sounds much like the snorting or grunting of a hog. This coupled with the A-10's lack of aesthetics and "thick skin" earned it the nickname "Warthog".
"During the development of the 30 mm round for the Gau-8 Gatling Gun on the A-10 the ordnance engineers ran into the problem of smoke "blow-black." The tremendous rate of fire caused large amounts of smoke to stream back into the jet engines and choke off the air supply. The Fairchild-Republic tried to solve the problem by installing two large plates on either side of the Gau-8. These projections gave the aircraft a blunt-nosed look that caused it to earn the nickname "Warthog." Later smokeless powder was employed and the plates were removed. Reference: Aerojet General Manufacturing Plant, 30-mm production engineers, Chino CA"
I like the "warthog" moniker, I helped call in a flight of these BAMF's during DS1 on a Republican Guard tank column, they are badasses regardless of the name, they could call it the A-10 "Hello Kitty" for all I care.

We (and I say that because I am in the Air Force) give our planes nicknames because they are our life. When your entire career revolves around a piece of equipment that you depend on to save your life, you tend to get a little sentimental about it.
The only people that ***** about "stupid" nicknames are little nerds who read a book about a plane and memorized the fact sheets. It is called the Warthog, because that is the name we gave it. I don't get mad about the nicknames you give to your barbies, so don't rag on ours.
