Scout choppers in AF are mobile UAVs

Look at the minimap in the top right. The scout choppers are mobile UAVs and have some pretty nice guns on 'em too! So the speculation was right!

The range is fairly limited though. If you look at this pic below, it shows a fully zoomed out minimap. You can JUST make out the UAV scan zone.

Soo...if you fly one of these and keep your minimap zoomed in you'll know exactly where everything near you is!

Yes, three people, pilot and two passengers for each scout chopper. The semi holds two, driver and passenger.

Sad to say, but.....I cannot find a single musclecar on any AF map....

Scrub that, we found one on Midnight sun and we're currently ripping up and down the runway to the sounds of wolves howling in the woods. Seriously.

The UAV is great.. I was flying over the underpass once and would have totally missed a guy getting ready to machine gun me.. had it not been for the mobile uav I would have passed him right up.. but I swung around and it was a quick burst of the pilot front guns and bam.. no more menacing mech... lol

One thing I noticed funny about the red semi.. no you cant drive the boxed tractor trailers nor the tankers.. but the red semi horn is awesome sounding with a deep subwoofer cranked up.. but when moving slow on a flat highway.. lol the semi if exited will conitnue to roll like a roaving personel killer..

I see alot of infantry chopper jet and tank battles going on in this map and the UAV on hte choppers will no doubt come in handy when you have a couple good aiming passengers to take them out if its too large a target for your front mounted guns.

oh yeah, exactly how slow can the a-10s saty in the air? helis speed?

Actually the A10 gets to feeling pretty heavy if you slow too much.. but then its top speed is already slower than the afterburner type in corebf2.

But its almost a bit faster than planes in BF1942 and the dogfighting is very familiar with that also since there are no missles or afterburners.. In fact I had to get used to not having after burners so much that it was easy to hit the ground when doing certain maneuvers you thought would normally otherwise pull you back out of the dive when you all the sudden realize oh no I have no power to get out of this or to pull up.

So as you fly or dogfight you are constantly thinking do I slow or gain speed since everything has more to do now with forward momentum without afterburner support.

I think its awesome to be back to the regular firghting style the missles were getting way newbish. But yes I also wished I had more power at times.. lol I am still catching myself using afterburner although there is no effect.. just habit from bf2.

It will either be really bad that you will get bombed to ****s.

But It could also be REALLY good, for the fact that you know if you are locked on its AA, and all you have to concerntrate on is bombing, which essentially gets you more points than taking down other aircraft.

EA's watching you and they consider this "exploiting" and could reset your stats. Two friends of mine did this in a blackhawk on Mashtuur and their stats were reset.

Tom Galt: The new scout helicopters are a real blast to fly, they are the most nimble of all the Battlefield 2 helicopters. Each one has 3 positions; a driver and 2 passengers that hang off the side, brandishing their own firearms. While it was originally intended as an anti-infantry platform, players have already become very accurate with dropping C4 on top of unsuspecting tanks! No. BF2 jets are very picky about where they land, and you have to do it juuuust right. AF jets will land at almost full speed on very rough terrain, bouncing into the air and back down. Looks like a WWI biplane making a landing, lol.

Finally the jets are closer to Desert Combat.....the easiest planes to land
where it wasn't a big deal to land for repairs, and if the jets have no A2A it really is alot more like DC because they didnt have locking missles. I might actually buy this.

I mean, in vanilla bf2 and EF the A2A missiles are the only thing that really can down a a decent pilot effectively, removing them will make bombing hassle free. Just throw in a few evasive turns mid bombing run and you can pretty much ingore hostle jets in the air. Right? Or has the reduction of speed/afterburner made them easier to shoot down with the Jet's cannons?

Can someone with AF deny this is the case? Or are me gonna see A-10 pilots have flawless rounds over and over?

The jets are slow and all have similar capabilities. I can't imagine that a pilot could go an entire round undefeated, even with a noob team against them. We tried mobile AA and fixed AA against all the jets, the AA won every time.

In regular BF2 the mobile AA is a killer, but even more so in AF. Think about it, the jets are so much slower in AF, this gives you more time to lock on and kill them.

On the other hand, if there is no teamwork and the mobile AA isn't used, you're just screwed.

Yes, the jets can take each other down pretty easily for a good pilot. I'm an average pilot at best (2.5-1 K/D) and had no trouble shooting other jets down. Imagine someone like Colony...the jet's would not even get a bomb run in.

I find AF really well balanced, but I would say that to survive in the air you'll need all the skills you have. Mobile AA is plentiful and more effective (due to slower aircraft speeds) than in BF2. The cannons on the jets are also more powerful (or seem to be).

Everyone is going to want to whore the A-10, but after getting blown out of the sky 90% of the time, I'm pretty sure the good pilots will find A-10s available because the amatuers have been scared away.

Same with the Little bird. Yes it's fast, agile, and well armed, but it's also very weak on defense. Anything but AA you should be able to avoid, even jets, but the AA will kill you every time.

All in all I guess that the aircraft in AF will be flown by those who can after the initial whoring. Who wants to fly something that's only gonna get you killed?
