DICE/EA Employees, I know you’re out there.
Do us a favor and give us the scoop on why BF2 patching is so under-tested. What gives?
Isn’t the first rule of software patch development to do no harm?
Currently, one-third of the visitors here are viewing the Support Forum. Perhaps if we knew the problem we could better react. The community is more than willing and able to assist if manpower is at issue.
I am traditionally a BF franchise cheerleader but I just can’t support a faulty product.

I know it's difficult-to-impossible to support all the possible configurations of the x86 platform. The number of different hardware and software setings makes PC gaming so different from console gaming. However, I am not aware of another game title (as popular as BF2) with so many inadequate patch releases.

since the team that wrote the code for the original release has not been working on it the whole time there's bound to be conflicts with the more recent patching.
they have said themselves that when bf2 released they were already working on bf2142. bottomline, they are sitting on a goldmine. :0)

Inadequate is damn right. Before 1.21, I never had any ping issues, not I get disconnected at least once a day. Before 1.3, I never had a single ctd. Now it happens twice an hour! And the only way to play bf2 again is to restart my comp! For a game of this size and player base, this testing is completely laughable and embarassing.

God, why doesn't you people get, that you have to remove the cache folder inside your BF2 folder in your Documents?
Talus
05-28-2006, 01:54 PM
But people shouldn't HAVE to do that just to update and play their game properly.
I spend half my time around here telling people to delete their cache and it's just crazy...

Hi Talus. You are correct. I have more time to post when the game doesn't work. :p
And I have cleared my cache folder. This is the first patch I have yet to get working properly for me in the 4 years the franchise has been out.

the only real issue I have with 1.3 is a mild higher ping and I CTD'ed onece. But I do not know if it was 1.3, or my overclocking because of the way it happened. I had OCed my RAM before to points where a game would just crash to desktop and thats it. I was playing, and had been for about an hour in bf2, it freezes for a moment and then CTD, but I think I booted it up again Im not sure. is that 1.3 or what?

my game has been getting CTD even before it can log in to account server, so i have been playing JointOps. I highly doubt i am going to buy another EA/DICE game for PC.

Well, so far..I have had ZERO issues with v1.3 (or any other patch for that matter) but TONS of people do and it seems even more so with v1.3 :(

Yesterday was my first hard lock on this PC. The server i was playing on was warping all over the place with freezes/pauses. I got the "Your connection to the server has been lost" Error and my PC hard locked, This required a hard boot to clear.
Tryed 3 reinstalls with no joy, In the mean time i'm running 1.22 untile they fix this mess. This patch has the potential to damage data in a condition like this.
EA... If your listening... Please fix this mess.

I wish just one or two BF2 devs would take it into their own hands and give us a little info about what they are doing and if they are listening. I would expect a few of them are gamers and know what it feels like to get a crappy patch.

Not sure who this was directed too but there are plenty of examples above.
Team Warfare League has not cleared this patch yet for matches, because of the server stability issues. They also await a hot fix.

Its not a goldmine if you annoy your loyal fanbase to the extent that they would rather have their testicles removed without the benefit of anesthetic than buy another one of your products.

Probably because he can't get BF2 running, or if he can its probably crashy as hell and not worth playing.

1: You shouldnt have to do that. No other game I know of requires you to do this just to install a patch
2: That didn't work for me anyway
God, when will some stop assuming that people having issues running the game are not complete morons and have tried every possible fix out there. EA have been working on fixing my issue for 2 weeks now, and they are stumped.

I personally think the only way this will get fixed quickly is for everybody with issues to go to EA's support page and submit a ticket. I have already done this.
If you all do this it will send a strong message that EA cant ignore. Well... At least not their support center.
Good luck all.

I've never had a problem to submit a ticket FOR...
Maybe post a link to the ticket submission page and I'll sticky it or something.

If you look at the upper right you will see the support link, Right next to your login. It changes for each account so i cant link it directly but you can submit a ticket there.

Only problem with submitting a ticket is that you have to have about 3-4 email exchanges with them before you can get it across that you've tried all the listed fixes and need to converse with someone who thinks rather than cut and paste solutions from the FAQ.

Think of it this way, If they recieve thousands of tickets they would have no choice but to look into this.

I don't have problems with 1.3, servers do... The God damn things crashes every copule of hours, and its annoying, so my "problem free" patch is kind of useless without working servers :)

Or their customer service dept. would get thoroughly pis*ed off at being overburdened, and the people calling the shots at EA would just ignore it for a couple of weeks till it went away.

With AF right around the corner i douby they would do this. It would be a costly mistake and and i'm guessing, EA likes their money too much.
