Guess they did add widescreen support. Chech out the gun, I did one on my old video card (6800GT@1600x1200@60HRz med. settings, 4xAA) and the other on my new card (7600GT@1680x1050@60HRz high settings, 4xAA).

Very nice improvment.

The overlay still looks streched in the Widescreen shot.

It does look a little better, but i agree it is still stretched. I judge that by looking at the writing and minimap.

I frankly never knew they had more of the gun off screen like that, for some reason the lines arn't as smooth either. Just realized AA was off, so I took another one with 4xAA.

Yes, but notice how the top and bottom is cut off.

This is NOT true widescreen ;)

You can only see slightly further to the sides because he is standing further back aswell.

I have a native 1680x1250 screen which runs bf2 sexily

I recently added a 26 inch wide screen LCD TV to my system and I would love to see true wide screen support, Although the streached version isnt that bad. I mean, imagine all the targets are now wider. It added another 10 to 15 points to my game per round. Very nice addition. . . . . . . . .Red

Yeah, it's not really widescreen. You're just losing view at the top and bottoms. I play like this, but it's really annoying. I wish BF2 supported real widescreen.

You can see straight away that its not proper widescreen support, everything is streached. not worth it for an extra inch on one side.

Its stretched screen!

BF2 does NOT have true widescreen support. Period, no if's, and's, or but's.

not true widescreen, but rather than stretched or cutoff.

I have BF2 set in my shortcut to play at my monitors native resolution of 1440x900. The FOV is still a bit stretched (ie. HUD) but its still better than picking a non native LCD resolution that ends up looking blurry and stretched even worse.

Is it just me or does widescreen looks really terrible?

Except for some UI elements, I think it looks perfectly fine.

Meh, I used widescreen for about a month, and I actually think that 120x1024 looks a lot better. Everything is much sharper. The only way widescreen truly looks good is when it's TRULY supported.

I agree and live with it. It is odd and weird not because of how it looks, its because there is no proper widescreen support. LCD's unfortunately have taken over and so has the notion that you can buy a single large screen to be both TV and monitor and the TV part will inevitably be widescreen since the combined purchase gives you a greater budget.
It was a very curious view of the relativly near future that was taken at an early stage of BF2's life.

each to their own, but I think it looks fine in the forced W/S.

BF series will never have WS, judging by EA.

I have a 19" WideScreen LCD (In Center of Sig). The Stanard resolution is 1440x900 but I play BF2 at 1280x960. I have no trouble playing like this (Check Stats) and think it looks good. Previous Monitor was 1024x768 on a 17" CRT.

Indeed. I do not think it's "officially" supported yet.

I love that, "Check my stats". Everyone knows this is the gold standard measure of any highly skilled player...

It still amazes me that Widescreen support was done for some games like 3 years ago "Far Cry" and even other popular games came back and added it in a patch. Then we have DICE, who want add it for crap, even while the widescreen will be the norm in another year.
Does anyone know if BF2142 supports Widescreen? If it does not support widescreen then they are really living in the last century firing 30 round mags and not making a kill.

I got a widescreen monitor and also do the "stretch hack" that most wide-screen gamers are doing.

I cant really notice a difference, but I am sure that if they showed me what its supposed to look like, I would see what I am missing.

I dont run games in my non-native resoultion when I have a LCD monitor.

By the way, my Dell 20.1 inch widescreen monitor rocks.

One more time, it currently, the monitor, can stretch the picture to fit the wide screen. It also streches all the game elements in the picture. Yes, that does include the hit boxes. Wider targets translates into more kills. So many people forget this. You know there is more to this game than what you see on the screen, dont you? . . . . . . . .Red

Yes you're right upto a point if the game is streched on a wider screen then the hit boxes will also be wider. However this also means that you have a bigger screen to cover with your mouse, so the sensitivety is also raised relatively.

So making your targets slightly wider but also slightly harder to hit, net result no real gain in game. A lot more than you see on or off the screen in fact :p
