Joystick - Worth it?

I was thinking about buying one , is it worth it? Also , when im running around (not in air) you can use your keyboard , right? Then when in a plane it turns on?

Its always on but in the control settings for the game, the joystick settings are set for air use.

BTW, yes its worth it. I use a Saitek EVO myself.
