First off, I'm a newb here, so if this is in the wrong place, or if this has already been answered and I didn't find it, then sorry.

Moving on, I'm just starting to play BF2 online, but I've noticed that only twenty or so servers are coming up. I would've thought there would be more servers, but that's it. Is there any way to find more servers to connect to?

The reasons why I'm trying to find more servers is one, all of the ones in my browser are almost always completely filled up, and two, my ping is pretty bad with all of the ones right now. So that leads to my second question: Is there any way to improve my connection to servers and lower my ping?

Thanks in advance.

I have much the same problem. Since changing tomcable i only get about 100 servers, used to get about 1000. Still havent found out the cause.

Matrix, if you're jsut starting to play online, then chances are tht you're on the unpatched version (like me). There are only about 20 servers because most people have downloaded the patch, and are on version 1.3. As for your ping, sorry I don't know many ways to fix it. It's easier to join a full server if you find what type of game you want to play (e.g. ranked, large maps. . . ) then apply filters. From there keep hitting fefresh and when a slot opens up, double click the server name as fast as you can. Sometimes you'll still have to wait a while because somebody else got on. Hope that helped.

The 20 servers you can see are probably far, far away from you so the ping may in fact be normal.

Just patch your game and you should get 1000+ servers, some of which will be closer to you and thus have lower pings.

Hey fella

As the guys above suggested you should definitely patch to the latest version (1.3). Make sure you download the full patch, don't use incremental updates as this can cause problems.

Also, there are lots of third party server browsers you'd be much better using than the default in-game browser.

Try...

www.bf2al.com
www.qtracker.com
www.kquery.com

You can also try my browser if you like, it's mentioned in my sig below. It lets you search for servers in your country only so might be useful if your connection is not great. it also has busy redial so you can join a server when a free spot comes available.

Thanks a lot everyone. I'll try and get that patch downloaded ASAP. And Kurt, I'll be sure to try out the browsers you recommended. Thanks a mil. =)
