I just bought a brand new computer (mind you, one that is advertised by Battlefield 2), and everytime I go to load a map, it finishes loading, but then after I hit "Join Game", it crashes. Here are my computer specs:
Alienware Area-51 5500
Intel Pentium D 3.0 GHz
250 GB SATA II Drive
DVD-RW Drive
1 GB DDR2 PC4300 RAM
nVidia GeForce 7900 GT
AlienIce+Accoustic Damp. Cooling
Windows Media Center Edition
I've reinstalled BF2 twice, tried updating my video drivers, but they were up to date.
I've only had this computer for two days, and it runs the rest of my games perfectly, except for BF2. Any ideas what I can do to fix this?
Thanks :D

Sadly, no ideas. Reinstalls would have been my suggestion. Are all your sound, network, etc drivers up to date?
I would have thought an Lienware PC would run BF2 right out of the box.
Sadly it might be a case of waiting for the next patch.

This is a known 1.3 bug, instead of pressing the join game button just press the esccape key (top left of keyboard). For some unknown reason this works.
PS
Try using the search function :)

I've had this since I bought my new computer...coincidentally 1.3 came out. Had the whole chicken / egg thing going. Reinstalled BF and the booster packs 3x. I used to always hit escape, but then got into the habit of "join game"....Thanks for solving the problem.
One more unrelated.....when I join the game initially I go into a host server.....this only stated after my 3rd re-install. ANy thoughts on that one?

Alienware... once again let's it's customers down... I like that part of the "...whole chicken / egg thing going..." That was a good laugh :) Anyways, I am stumped on that one.

did u use the incremental patch? heard it has problems. try using the full 1.3.
could try deleting all the stuff in the cache folder too, might help.

same EXACT problem.... different hardware... clean format of XP and still does it... hitting the Esc key instead of clicking join apparently works as a substitute.

I know how to fix this, it always happens to me. First of all you cannot minimize BF2 while you have it open. Secondly the first thing you should do when you boot up BF2 is go to your video options and press the apply button again. I don't know why it works but it does.
