I do it all the time, even if no one is around, so I can see where they are heading for that short period of time. Good tip for those who don't know.

I find that friendly snipers are often more useful as spotters than cover firing. It's quite difficult to get good shots from extreme range, when your target is just a couple of pixels in your scope, not to mention jumping and running all over the place. If I've got a sniper in my squad (when I'm SL anyway), I'll request that he go spot happy and spot EVERYTHING that wanders by, and concentrate less on shooting. You never know when he's going to see something that the rest of the squad missed.
The real trick is being able to tell the difference between the real threats and the false alarms. Those little red question marks have sent me on many a merry goose chase!

Spotting out enemies are very important. But more important is spotting out the aircrafts. This will help your pilots get the edge on the enemy.

I spot whenever I can. It takes a split second and if you do it fast enough the spot screen wont even get in your way.

Correct, I sometimes even overuse it to catch potential snipers hiding in grass and stuff. It's actually very very good to use.

Yes, if you think you know where a sniper is for example...or hear a shot from somewhere and you don't know exactly where he is, i also will just start spotting out the area of where i think the sniper is, and sometimes it will pick up exactly where the sniper is by fluke basically. Good point Doggie, i think that is what you meant.

I use it for that too once in a while. Sometimes Ill accidentally use it instead of thanks/roger that and expose something I didnt know was there.

Basically, it's a very good "weapon" to use instead of bincoulars :)...

Yup me too. Few things annoy me more than when I move into what looks to be a relatively safe area, with several friendlies about, only to come round the corner and get blasted by a tank that none of them could be bothered spotting. http://images.totalbf2.com/icons/icon8.gif

I mainly play a sniper, and identifying the enemy I take as serious part of my job. I am normally at a vantage point somewhere on the map, and I spot everything I see!! EVERYTHING. I think it is the most important thing a sniper can do since he is a bit removed from the "in your face combat". Please if you play a sniper, or any other class for that matter....SPOT for your team!! (especially armor, planes and helos)
I have had people to tell me to shut up because I am always spotting, but at least those members of my team that actually care know where everything is located and moving towards that I see. It does make a difference in the winning of a battle when you know where all the big equipment is located!!
