View Full Version : BF2 won't start after I quit, unless I standby + resume.

Well, let me clarify... If I start up my computer and then start BF2, it works perfectly. However, once I quit, the menu music will continue playing for ten or twenty seconds and then will stop. Then, if I attempt to start BF2 again, it'll just say that an error has occured. It keeps doing that if I attempt to do it again. However, if I put my computer in to standby mode and then resume it, it'll work again. Any ideas what's going on? I recently built my new machine:

-Opty 165
-DFI LanPartyUT SLi-DR
-1GB+256MB PC3200 sticks
-eVGA GeForce 7900GT

And yes, I've installed all the AMD dualcore driers and such.

Hello,
I am having a similar problem, I recently installed deluxe edition and I am pretty sure its patched (it doesnt say 1.3 , but forums seem to indicate it is patched). After starting comp, I can play game fine for as long as I want. But when I quit the game (from both console and menus), I need to restart comp before game will play again. It will load up the bf2 splash screen, the cd drive will spin up, but then nothing. After a minute I will get an error message. This happens when I try and swap between regular BF2 and SF, its getting really annoying to have to keep restarting.

Anyone have any ideas? Should I contact EA about this?

Sounds like your memory isn't freeing up. What are the specs on your computers?

You shouldn't be experiencing that problem from a hardward perspective. Software is now the variable I'd check. Once you start up, on your lower right hand side next to the clock, can you tell me what applications automatically load up?

As a trial and error fix (I shot an arrow into the air), you can attempt this one. Go into your MY DOCUMENTS and move your Battlefield 2 folder somewhere else. Keep it safe though because we may be putting it back. Go into the game, you will need to know your login password and the game will rebuild a new folder for you with default everything. See if you can game/quit/game now. If you can, it's slight corruption with your original BF2 folder. If it still doesn't work, toss the newly created BF2 folder and put your old folder back where it was as it is not to blame.

The only things I allow to startup are the ATI control panel, nero incd and my antivirus software. I tried moving the profile, it only made the error message popup a lot quicker (dont know if that's good or bad).
I looked in the event viewer and the game crash is associated with 2 error events

I am notsure of the df394b.tmp is a specific file which is causing the error. If it is, I suppose I can try finding it on the installation disks and just replacing it.

I get the same exact thing, nice to know that I don't have to reboot and only have to go into standby. Dice is the worst software development firm, period.

have you guys checked your Taskmanager for leftovers from BF2 after gaming?
Is there a task with a ~ as first letter in your Taskmanager after you are done gaming?
If yes...kill it and try again

I see entries like that when I try to load the game, but after the loading crashes, the ~ entry goes away. Also there was no entry like that after I closed down the game earlier today.

Bumping this topic back from the grave, still have the problem. It's good (well, bad for you guys :D) to knwo that other people have this problem too. And yes, I've tried everything that's already been suggested.
