I just recently upgraded from a Creative Sound Blaster Live! to a Creative X-Fi Xtrememusic Edition and im trying to unlock the Creative X-Fi settings in BF2, but everytime i click apply for the x-fi setting BF2 crashes. Do you know why this is?

Make sure you also have it selected on Game Mode, and have EAX off on either BF2 or the Creative settings. What Windows are you running, because it would crash on me when using XP x64?

I had the same issue today on an X-fi Fatality. I updated to the latest Creative drivers and BF2 refused to start. I put "-noSound 1" in the shortcut and managed to get it running. I switched the audio back to software mode and the game ran fine. I restarted the game and attempted to enable x-fi in the hardware setup but it would CTD when I hit apply.

Next I backed up and deleted my profile folder... nothing fixed. After that I completely deleted and wiped the directory of all things BF2. After a reinstall, and full 1.3 patch everything is working good. I think the game installer does a hardware check of some type during the initial install. I've had this problem before with updating X-fi drivers.

Good luck working it out. If you figure out a way to do it without a reinstall please post the method.

" NEver use drivers from the CD & always use the latest from teh website "The thing is, I actually like the Creative Console that comes on the CD. There is no crossover, bassboost, or equalizer unless you install the drivers from the CD first. And installing new creative drivers over the CD ones without uninstalling works fine, so you can get the fixes that come with the new drivers and the good console from the CD.

Actually with Creative this is not entirely correct. You will likely need to re-install BF2 in order to select the high quality feature. I had the exact same issue / posted here / reinstalled / then was able to select. Just uninstall, don't delete anything and reinstall, it should work.

u can install the latest drvier from Creative and then use the s/w on the CD or even downlaod the s/w from creative.com also

no need t ionstall the old driver first

just use the latest then install the s/w from teh CD

I'm not quite sure what you mean by s/w, but I would expect the older drivers to overwrite files from from the new drivers if you installed the older (CD) drivers second, thereby losing any fixes that came with the newer drivers.

s/w is software

dude

downlaod the driver from Creative, install it , insert ur cd in ur optical drive, install from the list the software u need and NOT the driver

now u have the latest driver installed ( using a fresh install ) and also teh software u want from the CD

well, x-fi sounds good. but i've really heard alotta things about its incompatibility issues. eg is bf2. no sound etc. i get the no sound all the time even with the few days old driver i dl from the creative website. for me, setting it back to default always makes the sound return.

Ive never gotten the no sound bug, but I did get a really annoying busted app error.

I had the busted app problem - to fix it, I uninstalled my X-fi sound drivers and all related software, uninstalled BF2, installed the drivers then reinstalled BF2, SF, EF and AF. Works like a charm now!
