I'm so surprised at the fact that you can make the most awe inspiring, 3D animated! highly professional movie, yet can't grasp the simplicity of video encoding?!?
LOL this IS a true master piece. You can tell every second was crafted and cut to perfection. For me, after reading and following the progress of this movie for such a long time it feels like unwinding a highly tort spring that I know somebody has spend so much time winding.
I actually admire the sound work more than the pictures oddly. Just listening to it, exceptional stuff!
Excellent voices, who ever or where ever they came from… The soundtrack is also wonderfully united together. I had no idea so many tracks were being shuffled through as I was watching…
A hope this has a hugely successful launch onto the internet.
It really is a battlefield 2 party piece creation, Smiley. Very well done!

Excellent work smiley, the effects and animations were perfect..
I loved how it was such a serious movie with such a funny premise..
Everything was top notch about that video
You gotta make a streaming version to put on google video so the lazy ones can watch it also

Smiley, did you a good job in this one, allthough it was a 7 minute film, every second is worth it, ive always imagined 3D animated things like this, and i liked how you did the "bullet time" with the sniper. Very Professional

That's a superior movie, smiley. Everything was great... the 3d objects, effects, editing and sound effects etc.
It would be great if the admin can help to post this movie on the frontpage. This movie is really fantastic.

Very nice movie Smiley, I loved every single frame of it!
The editing was very well done, one of the best I've seen so far. The sound/music was great, it flows perfectly. The effects were nicely done, it didn't feel if they were overused. The zipshots in particular were my favorites. Your camerawork is excellent, very smooth overall.
The modeling of the baby was good, but not the best to be honest. The baby's mouth was a bit disturbing, was it meant to be that way? But on the other hand, you did composite it nicely into battlefield2. The merge was good and apart from a few scenes you couldn't tell it was added. My favorite scenes were the baby crashing the tank and splatting the mec, that was just hilarious!
The story, well... a bit strange to say the least but it stands out for originality and though I was disappointed that the movie only lasted about 7 min's it's a great effort and makes it one of the better bf2 movies I've seen to date. I just wish you could have made it a bit longer.
But of course, I do understand that it takes a serious amount of time to make a movie like this, especially with the 3d crafted models. As we (little_donkey and myself) are progressing towards part3 (the last one) of Sands of Fire we have already come a long way and it's still far from finished. But we do see an end in the tunnel and that's the exciting part of making such huge/complex movies. The satisfaction you get out of it is just so overwhelming, it's like giving birth to a baby (in iraq) :D. J/K, good job Smiley.
The movie needs to be on the frontpage for sure!
PS were those mec speaking Japanese? ;)

First of thanks for all the positive reply’s makes all the work worth it. A few people thought it was a bit short but the entire project was done by myself and if I spent any longer making it I would probley be in a mad home by now.
Time frame of the film I wasn't worried about, it was more of the pacing I wanted to keep, I basically made each section as mini movies then while editing seen what worked and what didn't. I also spent allot of time with the music / sfx and I didn’t want to us any bf2 sounds redubbing the hole thing was fun but it took a hell of a long time which i dont think id be doing again soon ! But I think it was worth it for the end results!
If i get a chance i'll go a google video version !
Again ta for the reply's.
StRupie : No the babys mouth wasn't rigid for movement when you moved his head it would drag the mouth.
PS were those mec speaking Japanese? ----- LOL no that was a friend of mine mixed with voice's from team america LOL.

I absolutely loved it, Smiley!
Watching the end credits, the first thing I realised was that I'd been anticipating this project to such an extent that within my own mind, I'd put you in a really difficult position. I had such high expectations they were bordering on unfair because the video was going to have to be of an amazingly high quality to meet my expectations ... but the thing is, you exceeded them and left me completely amazed! I was watching the whole movie with an expression of absolute delight on my face. :D < Like that but with more detail.
I'm so looking forward to showing it to friends and family members!
I think what I liked most (well, aside from the jaw-dropping technical proficiency) was the pure, light-hearted fun of the whole scenario. This kind of premise is very much in keeping with my sense of humour, so I was laughing the whole way through and genuinely loved the way you executed idea.
Merely having an original concept / storyline is one thing but to execute it in just the right way is something else and I think you deserve huge credit for the way you conceptualised the whole project.
You've got some serious talent! Anyone who can't see that is a fool.
Congratulations on a job so well done! (Well-and-truly worth the wait, too! :p)

Ta for the tip Xalias I could do i higher version but the problem is with the sound not video, I rebubbed it @ 48hzh ! the video is 74mb with filteres hd movie look... without its 25mb and then ad the amount of music & sound @ 48hzh = 184mb ?

Video encoding can be hard, I'd say give Windows Media Video a shot, it's actually quite a good codec. Be careful with the sound 90% of the time it's the sound that's making the video so much larger than it needs to be, I haven't quite found a good way to encode the audio.
PS: Downloading now, will review later.
Just watched it...fantastic. Very cinematic and very professional, my main criticism with movies is their camera work, here it was FANTASTIC, but I have to know how you got it to be so smooth, the camera movements were much smoother than anything you can do with a mouse, did you use a joystick or just move the video around in the editor?
Criticisms - the length, it ended somewhat abruptly, also the sound effects seemed to lack a bit of impact, boosting the volume of the effects compared to the music could probably solve this. Other than that it was fantastic, I just have to know how you pulled off that camera work.

this sort of production makes me wonder why we dont join and create a Snoken type of team to make longer scripts with more "actors"...
Sir. Xios
07-23-2006, 11:12 PM
It generally not the actors part that is the problem.
Creating a film like this takes unbelievable amounts of time in editing because of the advanced programs and effects used through out.
What would be helpfull is a warehouse full of the best editors all connected in LAN with a handy rendering farm. Then the results would be truly breath taking. Shame this is never gonna happen. :p

Sir. Xios I understand you since I do edit for fun using all sorts of programs at once ( eg Aftereffect7+Pemier pro1.5+sony vegas 6) and hell yea if you want a good movie its gonna take you agonizing time =) But if you look at the video productions, they generally don't work alone ;)

All done with a mouse recorderd in slow motion, then rendered back in real time its the best way i found in BF2. Then in Vegas on a lot of the shots i zoomed slightley in and cleaned them up.
Another good way i found to get strange camera pans was do a pan shot in bf2 scroll shot right to left, then in vegas zoom in and pan the opposite left to right, the same with zooms , zoom in, in bf2 in vegas start zoomed in and zoom out. try it

I guess it is because we're still experimenting with cameramovements but we can't figure out how to get them smooth... we have already tried the slowmo trick and results got better but not as expected. I guess you didn't use Fraps to record your shots. BF2 is a pain in the *** when it comes to movie recording, I liked the BF42/V style much more.

Didnt use fraps and bf2 recorder. I find it works well but you will end up shooting the same shot a good few time to get it right. I acted out the shots myself which is a lot easier never mind 10 - 12 people running around trying to get good shots !

Hi there Smiley, that's great news... more bf2 movies should be considered to participate such festivals. I think you should feel honored because the Battlefield machinima scene is rather small compared to Halo, the Sims, WoW and the Movies.
Did you send it in yourself or did they contact you, could you give me some more details (links) about the festival? I'm living in Belgium myself (Amsterdam is not too far), but I won't be able to attend the festival.

Hello BF2 community!
I´m Ruben Zijlstra, organizing the Machinima Bits event on september 23rd 2006 and festival in 2007 in Amsterdam.
First let me say that BF2 is being represented on the event: we´ve got Mine (this got a lot of people I know into machinima) and An American Baby in Iraq. Since we´re only showing about 75 minutes on the big screen that´s a big part of the program.
For people who can read Dutch there is a website:
http://www.kriterion.nl/machinimabits
For all other people: if you want to now what we are up to you can send me your emailadres to ruben at kriterion dot nl, and you will be on our mailinglist. Tomorrow September 14th we will be sending out a pressrelease in both Dutch and English.
What movies do you recommend? I really love An American Baby in Iraq, but what other movies should we check out? We do not have a lot of time left for the event so it would be nice if you could also provide me with a hi res link of what you think is good BF2 machinima material.
Thanks a lot and spread the word :)
