View Full Version : Latest Punkbuster update causing server disconnects

Since the latest pb update everytime I join a server , just when I get in and try to spawn , both my pc and my internet connection freeze and a second or two later when they come back I find myself back at the server browser screen with the 'you have been disconnected from server ' message . This happened on all the servers that I tried except one that hadn't been updated yet .
I tried manually updating punkbuster but that didn't help . I tried updating my lan drivers , no difference there either . I have been reading on other forums and it does seem to be an issue atm , for a select few ( ooooh joy , I am part of a select few ) .
Any help or advice would be greatly appriciated .
Thanks
John

This might help
Problem - Reduce the Number of Punkbuster Checks
Cause - n/a
Fix - Punkbuster, as you probably know, is the anti cheating software which comes bundled with BF2 and is required to play on all ranked servers and most public servers. Punkbuster scans your hard-drive for problems every 20 seconds. As you may have guessed, this causes a lot of lag. What we are going to do in this fix is to increase the amount of time in between punkbuster checks to 500 seconds (the maximum amount so don't try anything higher). By the way, in case you were worried, this is 100% safe with punkbuster, and will NOT cause any problems with Punkbuster thinking you are a cheater. Punkbuster even recommends this fix on their website.
To do this you need to:
1. Ok, the first step is very simple, join any BF2 online server which is running punkbuster, preferably a ranked one.
2. Once you are in, and respawned somewhere, press the ` key. This key is located on most keyboards above the tab key and to the left of the 1 key
3. Once you have pressed this, a large white box should drop down with a load of text in it. Type pb_sleep 500 and hit the enter key
4. Once you have done this, make sure the box is still up and type pb_writecfg to save your settings

`Yeah , I found a server that hadn't been updated , got in did the pb_sleep 500 and pb_writecfg and then left and went to another server . The only difference it made was i got to stay longer by a few seconds ...I had the console up so I could see when it crashes , it does so when it gets to the 'receiving can'trememberthename from punkbuster ' .

I'm having same kind of problem. Game sometimes disconnects me and sometimes it won't. This happens usually only about 30s after map change or so. It started to happen couple weeks ago.

ditto here. I have been working with EvenBalance (PB support for BF2) for 3 weeks now and no resolution.
GREAT WORK PB! YOU ROCK! THANKS FOR KEEPING US SAFE FROM CHEATERS BY NOT ALLOWING US TO JOIN A SERVER FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS! THAT IS INGENIOUS CODING! APPLY THAT LOGIC TO ALL THE GAMES YOU TOUCH PLEASE!

Sorry my suggestion did not help much the only thing left is to enter a server like you did get the file name it crashes on and submit that info to Punkbuster so they can try to resolve it.

It's ok now , evenbalance released a hotfix early this morning and it fixed the problem for most of us .
