    Project Reality's Rhino Exclusive Interview

Recently the Total Gaming Network had the chance to talk to one of the Project Reality Lead Developers, Rhino about the modification and his role in it as well as discussing the mod's future.
TGN: Hey Rhino, first of all, I just wanted to say thank you for allowing TGN to interview you.

Rhino: Hey there and thanks for the opportunity, TGN has been a great community supporter of PR over the years!

TGN: Your the person responsible for Qinling, Ghost Train and my favorite PR map of all time, Muttrah. Speaking of which, why did it get removed and will we get Muttrah 2 in v0.8?

Rhino: That is correct, though as lead mapper my responsibilities also include putting work into all the maps that go into PR, which means it's sometimes hard to find time to work on my own projects. The removal of Muttrah City was my decision, the map was developed around the game play in PR v0.3 and it worked brilliantly with v0.3. But by PR v0.5 it was clear that the mod had simply out grown the map. The map was too small and did not promote the kind of game play we wanted in PR, so there was two main choices: do a lot of work on the current version, or scrap it and start fresh, with a much, much larger, more realistic and overall better design. I've been working on the map on and off ever since (over a year now). This was no easy task and I have been pushing the map and myself to the limits.

Wow. I never got a chance to play Muttrah since my first PR experience was in 0.5, but it seems like the kind of city map that I've always wanted. Buildings and blocks limiting movement, but not many chokepoints because there's many routes around the city. Like Black Hawk Down or something.

Btw is there a top-down minimap view for it? I'd like to study the map before rushing into PR .8 and getting lost.

Rhino (if you read) is that the final view distance for the map? how big will be (1024x2?)?.

The only thing Muttrah needs is a billboard with Rhino's big fat *** plastered on it. Put it right in the center of town. for that, I'd not only play PR, I'd let ya'll knife rape me in front of the sign.

You can find a rather out of date, very large one in my http://bfeditor.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10926 Tutorial

I can't say tbh, I will push it as high as it will go, hoping at around 600m but the map has a huge amount of objects in it and even thou none of our testers are having any performance issues at this point, once the map gets lightmaps it will most likely plummet in fps but I'm keeping my hopes up

Looks excellent guys. Custom stuff makes the maps feel much more authentic.

A huge billboard of Rhino's ***? That would be horrifying, but as long as it's done in a realistic way, I don't mind. I'll be getting my binoculars out.

I really want to play that map... in 1680*1050. I hope it doesn't get strangled by engine limitations.
